A truly mind-boggling strategic blunder, which can only be explained by the regime’s fanatical obsession with ideological purity. We’re probably ‘lucky’ that Hitler was genuinely insane – a more rational (but just as evil) dictator would have vetoed such blunders and likely won the war.
