SurvivalBlog presents another edition of The Survivalist’s Odds ‘n Sods— a collection of news bits and pieces that are relevant to the modern survivalist and prepper from “HJL”. China is reacting to Animal Farm this week.
Animal Farm
All books are equal, but some or more equal than others. President Xi Jinping, who is very nearly dictator for life in Communist China has ordered the banning of any online post that referred to George Orwell’s dystopian novel Animal Farm and the letter “N”. We can only assume that the letter is being used as a form of dissent, but it sure will be hard to write sentences without this letter. Note that this is not the first decree suppressing free speech in China, the word “lifelong” and “disagree” have also been banned.
Gun Control
Mike Williamson, SurvivalBlog’s Editor at Large posted an article over on his site that looks at some issues of gun control. Gun control artificially raises the price on the guns that it targets. Contrary to what gun control idiots enthusiasts think, it doesn’t stop the guns from circulating. Restrict the gun enough and you simply drive it to the underground black market. Despite being poised to make money from any gun control law passed, he’d vote to eliminate all of them in a heartbeat. It’s an interesting perspective and one that those pushing the laws have obviously not thought through.
Ending Preemption Laws
Preemption laws are those laws that keep local entities from creating their own gun control regulations. These are generally considered a good thing because they are what allow you to travel to any community and not worry about the local gun laws. Without them, you could end up violating the local law and wind up in jail just because you traveled through a community that had an absurd gun control law. Just ask many who have traveled through New York City how that works. A group of anti-gun mayor want to see these laws ended.
FBI Informants
The plot thickens on the Pulse shooting in Florida. You knew there was more to the story, right? According to this article sent in by reader H.L., the shooter’s father was an FBI informant and had been for over 10 years. The father is also under investigation for money transfers to Turkey and Pakistan based on paperwork found in his possession on the day of the attack. The shooters attorney’s asked the court to declare a mistrial, but the judge refused because the undisclosed information was about the father, not the shooter. It should be noted that the father, Seddique Mateen, was strategically positioned directly behind Clinton during her speech in Kissimmee less than two months after the attack.
Social Media
Do you have an Android phone? Do you use the Facebook app on it? Now, it turns out that Facebook has been collecting metadata off of the Android phone for years and you probably didn’t know that was happening. The stored information contained very personal information including call logs, contact information, phone numbers and call lengths. SMS texts also had similar metadat stored though the messages themselves were not stored. The app utilized an old API from a previous version of Android which allowed access to that information. Note that Applie iPhone users were not affected by the iPhone uses iMessage by default rather than Facebook’s messaging app. Thanks to DSV for the link.

Just in case you thought that Facebook was concerned about the sanctity of your private data, reader S.M. sent in this article that references what Mark Zuckerberg thinks of you.
Zuck: Just ask.
Zuck: I have over 4,000 emails, pictures, addresses, SNS
[Redacted Friend’s Name]: What? How’d you manage that one?
Zuck: People just submitted it.
Zuck: I don’t know why.
Zuck: They ‘trust me’
Zuck: Dumb f- -ks.
Survival Retreat Property
If you are interested in some Canadian property that is off grid, SurvivalRealty has you covered. Both properties offer serious isolation, along with great water and land resources:

Please send your news tips to HJL. (Either via e-mail of via our Contact form.) These are often especially relevant, because they come from folks who watch news that is important to them. Due to their diligence and focus, we benefit from fresh “on target” news. We often “get the scoop” on news that is most likely ignored (or reported late) by mainstream American news outlets. Thanks!
Can’t spell China without the letter n.
China becomes chia and their new national anthem becomes CHA, CHA, CHA, CHIA.
Now that there is funny!
Referring to the property in Canada, please be aware that the gun laws in Canada are very restrictive. I would be hesitant to move there and expect the same freedoms that we have in America.
I would be hesitant to move there and expect the same freedoms that we HAD in America.
There you go. I fixed it for you.
Glad to see someone mention Animal Farm.
I, not the school system, required my daughter to read Animal Farm and Orwell’s 1984 in order to earn certain privileges before and when she was barely in middle school.
She has never forgotten it.
I also made her watch Schindler’s List at a fairly young age. Too graphic you say? Well not as graphic as seeing it first hand not “if” but “when” it were to happen again.
These things make an impression on an impressionable young mind. Truth can be a powerful teacher. Kids need to know not only personal consequences, but the consequences of misguided and emotional collective reasoning as opposed to critical thinking.
