At any given time, the average car’s gas tank is only half full. The unfilled portions collectively represent a huge reservoir. There are about 34,300,000 cars registered in the UK. Let’s assume the average gas tank is just 12 gallons. (Yes, most cars are small there.) But assuming an average of 6 gallons of available capacity, that is collectively 205,800,000 gallons. So if 80% of the population decided to “top off” in a 24-hour period, then every petrol station in the country would soon be sold out of fuel. And that’s not to mention Jerry cans…]
