Economics & Investing For Preppers

Here are the latest news items and commentary on current economics news, market trends, stocks, investing opportunities, and the precious metals markets. We also cover hedges, derivatives, and obscura. Most of these items are from the “tangibles heavy” contrarian perspective of SurvivalBlog’s Founder and Senior Editor, JWR [1]. Today, we look at rising steel prices. (See the Commodities section and the Equities section.)

Commodities:

Steel prices have tripled. Now Bank of America is sounding the alarm [11]. Here is a quote:

“The pandemic brought the American steel industry to its knees last spring, forcing manufacturers to shut down production as they struggled to survive the imploding economy. But as the recovery got underway, mills were slow to resume production, and that created a massive steel shortage.

Now, the reopening of the economy [12] is driving a steel boom so strong that some are convinced it will end in tears.”

Sales have been brisk in our the Jeff Cooper’s Birthday Sale at Elk Creek Company [27]. We sold more than $10,000 worth of guns in the first two days of the sale. This sale began on May 10th (Cooper’s birthday) and ends on May 21st, so order soon. This is the time to round out your collection of pre-1899 Federally-exempt guns!  For this sale, I’ve reduced the prices on more than half of my pre-1899 gun inventory, and all of my replica percussion-fired revolvers.
