The Survivalist’s Odds ‘n Sods

SurvivalBlog presents another edition of The Survivalist’s Odds ‘n Sods— a collection of news bits and pieces that are relevant to the modern survivalist and prepper from “JWR”. Our goal is to educate our readers, to help them to recognize emerging threats, and to be better prepared for both disasters and negative societal trends. You can’t mitigate a risk if you haven’t first identified a risk. Today, we look at some more saber-rattling by China, with Taiwan.

Nashville Officials Conspire to Conceal Low COVID Numbers

Our Editor-At-Large Michael Z. Williamson forwarded this: COVID-19 emails from Nashville mayor’s office show disturbing revelation. Mike’s Comments:  “So this was just 80 cases from bars out of 20,000 cases in that region. And they refuse to release the actual numbers without a formal Freedom of Information request. This is not about an illness, it’s about power.”

Three Arrested at Moscow, Idaho Psalm Sing

My #1 Son forwarded this recent news of a blatant double standard in law enforcement at protest events: Three people, including candidate Rench, arrested at church event in Moscow. And here is a good follow-up podcast that includes video of Rench’s arrest and a revealing conversation with the arresting officers: EMERGENCY SHOW – Gabe Rench Arrested at Psalm Sing in Moscow, Idaho.

Atlanta Bureaucrat Indicted for Illegal Machine Guns

Reader Tim J. sent this: Atlanta Bureaucrat Indicted for Illegal Machine Gun Possession. Tim highlighted these points from the end of the article: “Beard allegedly ordered two custom-built machine guns to be delivered to Atlanta City Hall and paid with them using taxpayer funds to the tune of $2,641.90.  On a U.S. Department of the Treasury tax exemption form, the CFO claimed they were for the exclusive use of the Atlanta Police Department. However, investigators claim that Beard kept them for personal use.”

FDA Wants to Ban NAC Supplement

And, finally this news, over at the Dr. Mercola site:  FDA Wants to Ban NAC Now That It Combats COVID-19. Here is a snippet:

  • “N-acetylcysteine (NAC) has a long history of use as a first-aid remedy for acetaminophen poisoning. Compelling research suggests it may also be useful against COVID-19
  • By raising glutathione, NAC combats oxidative stress, which is a main cause of the cytokine storm associated with COVID-19. NAC also inhibits hypercoagulation and breaks up blood clots, which is another complication seen in some COVID-19 cases
  • NAC helps loosen thick mucus in the lungs and improves a variety of lung-related problems, including pneumonia and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), both of which are common characteristics of COVID-19
  • NAC has been shown to inhibit replication of influenza virus
  • Aside from increasing glutathione, NAC may also prevent or improve COVID-19 infection by improving T cell response and modulating inflammation.”

  1. JWR, thanks for the mention, much appreciated!

For those that enjoyed the Patriots books, along with One Second After/One Year After, Matt Bracken’s books, and even old classics like Lucifer’s Hammer and Alas, Babylon, I’ll bet the farm you’ll enjoy Turn Red Tomorrow. Plus, if you don’t, you got what you paid for…

  2. About: ~Three people, including candidate Rench, arrested at church event in Moscow.~
“A “psalm sing” attended by more than 150 people Wednesday in the Moscow City Hall ~~~>parking lot led to three arrests, …” … … “The event was promoted on Christ Church’s Facebook page as a “flash psalm sing.” It started at 4:45 p.m. and most people had left within 30 minutes of it starting.” [dailynews]

The Pastor could have called the gathering a ~Peaceful Protest~ with Christian people singing.
At a number of >lawful secular ‘peaceful protests’ ~People don’t wear masks; plus, some people even start throwing gasoline bombs and rocks at the secular protests.

Donald Trump calls his rallies ‘Peaceful Protests’ to partially spoof the laws and events now days.

    Plus this and other places:
“Pastor John MacArthur, whose California church is holding in-person services in violation of the state’s COVID-19 health orders, opened his most recent sermon by welcoming his congregation to “the Grace Community Church peaceful protest.”

  3. Perhaps some of you can address:
1 if and how much China has compromised the US Military?
2 Do they have access to our software, our plans and to personnel (both active and retired)?
3 If we were hit by a first strike by the Chinese or their “partners”, what is our ability to respond in a significant manner?
It feels like we have hundreds or thousands of Chinese here gathering info and a number of Americans who are spying for the Chinese. Am I being paranoid?

    1. Buck, let me try to answer your questions (which are good ones, I might add).

      1. Red China has been spying on the US since before it won the Chinese Civil War and became Red China. They have stolen the plans for many of our weapons systems and have developed copies, but that doesn’t mean they can network with and control any of them.
      2. To control networked weapons, the Red Chinese would need reasonably up to date copes of the operational software and for most, the ability to duplicate the encryption devices. AFAIK, while they may have software they are unlikely to have functional equivalents of the Type I encryptors.

As for access to our personnel, they hacked OPM a few years back and got the security clearance investigation reports on a couple million of us. Shouldn’t be hard for them to find phone numbers or email addresses with the info they already have.

And as to plans, I wouldn’t be surprised if they have a pretty good concept of our plans in the Pacific, including Korea and Japan.

      3. Sure, we could retaliate for any Red Chinese attack on the US, whether conventional or nuclear. Nobody has the reach of the USAF or the capability to project power like the USN. But Red China is a huge country with more than a billion people. Our retaliation might seem like a pinprick instead of a gunshot.

Probably the worst attack they could make would involve High Altitude Electromagnetic Pulse weapons used directly by them or indirectly by the NORKS or another client state (Iran).

      4. No, you are not paranoid. I served in a couple Counterintelligence positions during the Cold War and supported Insider Threat programs afterwards as a contractor. The CHICOMS are in the US to steal us blind, and anyone who recognizes that and still wants to pursue them is accused of being a racist. (Which is probably why I am emotionally immune to Antifa and BLM’s accusations of racism).

      1. for both Buck and OldParatrooper (like myself and I have two new knees to prove it…lol)
We only need to ask California Sen. Diane Feinstein (D). Her personal (limo) driver of 20+ years was indictedearly 2019 for spying for the RedComs. I have to wonder, how much info did DiFi spill while being chauffeured around both in San Francisco and Washington DC?
        Who’da thunk it?

  4. Matt in OK , and many others are right in that this covid deal is getting out of control, as with the Nashville officials fudging the numbers, and other governors enforcing make believe laws, and enforcing their edicts with force. Good article by Judge Napolitano on this very subject this AM. Explains in plain English even a demoncrap could understand, (well, maybe not)….

    https://www.lewrockwell.com/2020/09/andrew-p-napolitano/do-we-still-have-a-constitution/

  5. Perhaps trying to cover the low numbers because a lockdown only works if employed early on in an outbreak and the public wouldn’t support a lockdown if the current numbers were low, even though without a lockdown they would obviously rise? In this case it would be a misguided attempt at getting people to buy in to the lockdown, but wouldn’t disprove the pandemic.

    1. They want to regulate NAC as a medication and make it prescription only. Same as the ban on HCQ for covid. It’s so the drug makers can have their expensive vaccine and rape our wallets.

    2. It’s all about the greenbacks. There are billions and billions of dollars at stake. If there are too many ways to defeat this disease without taking a vaccine, those who are paying attention won’t take the vaccine. That is why hydroxycloroquine is so demonized. NAC is next on the list. Satan forbid (they are Satanists after all) we should actually cure ourselves without giving billions to Bill Gates, or for that matter, Anthony Fauci and the dozens of others in the CDC, NIH, and the FDA who financially benefit from their incestuous relationship with Big Pharma.

In Washington DC, corruption is the norm, not the exception.

        1. Lily,

Me, hold back? It’s not in my DNA. 🙂

I’m just glad my father isn’t alive to witness all that is going on today. This is all so unnecessary, but not unexpected.

  6. Yep, I love this story: ‘Hillbilly Brigade’ Saved an Oregon Town from Wildfire.

I can easily imagine any number of my fellow reader/commenters doing the same thing in such circumstances. Resourceful and reliable are words that describe us.

    Carry on

  7. Great story on the “Hillbilly Brigade” to save a town. Awesome! I hope we can pull together that quickly to make a difference. Great story. Thank you Michael for the book “Turn Red Tomorrow” I downloaded it tonight.

  8. The Kyle Rittenhouse incident video is excellent. If prosecutors did not complete a thorough investigation before having Kyle arrested, and if it turns out that they are prosecuting him because of political pressure (and their actions are not aligned with the law), there should be consequences to those prosecutors. From everything I’ve seen, it appears Kyle Rittenhouse did nothing but try to defend his own life. He should not be sitting in a jail awaiting extradition. In my thoughts, he is in grave danger in custody. Given the current climate, he may require protection upon release as well.

  9. re:
Atlanta bureaucrat with illegal machine gun

I think that premise is inaccurate.

According to my understanding of the constitution of these united states of America, the Second Amendment prohibits congress-critters from making ‘laws’ about firearms.
Hence, no firearm can be ‘illegal’.

Although he certainly appears culpable in a vast — majorly vast! — array of other poor decisions, the Atlanta bureaucrat is not guilty of possessing or owning or carrying any tool.
Nor is he guilty of ‘making-up stuff’ on a tax form to acquire that tool without paying his us$200 fair share of taxes or passing a background check.

Stealing that tool is another matter.

  10. re:
Atlanta bureaucrat with illegal machine gun

I believe that premise is flawed.

According to my understanding of the constitution of these united states of America, the congress-critters are prohibited from making ‘laws’ about firearms.
Since any ‘law’ about firearms is illegal, possessing and ownership and carrying any firearm cannot be ‘illegal’.

Although the bureaucrat certainly appears culpable on a vast — majorly vast! — array of other poor decisions, he is innocent of the ‘illegal machine gun’ claim.
Any tax on any firearm is illegal, so he is innocent of ‘making stuff up’ on a tax form to acquire that firearm.

Stealing the firearm is a different matter.
Hanging is too good for a firearm thief!

  11. The guberment lying about the really low Covid numbers…you don’t say. All of us with a brain and gut instinct knew this from the beggining. The FDA banning NAC?? Well what do you expect your enemy to do to you?? They would ban vitamin C if they could. They are here to kill, steal and destroy us. DUH
