The Survivalist’s Odds ‘n Sods

SurvivalBlog presents another edition of The Survivalist’s Odds ‘n Sods— a collection of news bits and pieces that are relevant to the modern survivalist and prepper from “JWR”. Our goal is to educate our readers, to help them to recognize emerging threats, and to be better prepared for both disasters and negative societal trends. You can’t mitigate a risk if you haven’t first identified a risk. Today, we look at the La Niña winter Weather Pattern.

Winter 2020/2021: La Niña Returns?

Reader C.B. sent this: La Nina forms in the Pacific – here’s what it means for hurricanes, wildfires. Here are the article’s opening paragraphs:

“A La Nina climate pattern has appeared in the Pacific Ocean, which could lead to an increase in activity during the ongoing Atlantic hurricane season and create conditions more prone to wildfires out West, forecasters say.

La Nina, Spanish for “little girl,” is a naturally occurring phenomenon in which sea surface temperatures across the central and eastern Pacific Ocean are cooler than average, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. It’s the opposite of the warmer-than-average “El Nino” — and scientists believe this time the pattern will last through at least February.

“La Nina can contribute to an increase in Atlantic hurricane activity by weakening the wind shear over the Caribbean Sea and tropical Atlantic Basin, which enables storms to develop and intensify,” Mike Halpert, the deputy director of NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center, said in a statement.”

Tylenol Lowers Risk Aversion

Reader D.S.V. sent us this: Tylenol side effect: Acetaminophen may cause people to take greater risks. Here is a percope:

“Popping a Tylenol for that nagging headache could do more than just provide some pain relief. A new study finds that taking acetaminophen may also cause an individual to take greater risks than they would otherwise.

Researchers at The Ohio State University conducted a series of experiments to see how the popular pain reliever affects decision making. While we often hear warnings about how acetaminophen can take a dangerous toll on liver, this latest side effect may give thrill-seekers (or risk-averse folks) reason to pause.

In one experiment, researchers had 189 college students (109 men, 79 women) take 1,000 mg of acetaminophen, the suggested dosage for a headache. Some students were unknowingly given a placebo instead of the drug. Once the medication kicked in, participants were provided a list of various events and then rated each one on how risky they thought it was.

Results show that students who’d taken acetaminophen viewed things like “bungee jumping off a tall bridge” or taking skydiving classes as less risky than those given a placebo. Similarly, ‘speaking your mind about an unpopular issue in a meeting at work,’ switching careers in your mid-30s, and walking home alone at night in a high-crime area were also considered less risky by those in the acetaminophen group.

“Acetaminophen seems to make people feel less negative emotion when they consider risky activities – they just don’t feel as scared,” explains study co-author Baldwin Way, an associate professor of psychology, in a university release. ‘With nearly 25 percent of the population in the U.S. taking acetaminophen each week, reduced risk perceptions and increased risk-taking could have important effects on society.'”

  1. Tylenol: This is the problem with jumping to conclusions at places like this.
You tested college aged kids to see if they’d do something stupid under the influence of anything and your surprised at the results? Even at that when I was that age I’d change my mind abut stuff every 5 minutes anyway simply because of lack of life experience, boredom and hormones.
Run the same test on 40s-60s and see how it goes for you. Pshhh I’ll take 2 tylenol then slap the snot outta ya for asking me irritating questions while I’m trying to watch Bonanza and eating ice cream. Now go take 800mg Motrin and change your socks.

  2. Remember a few days ago someones (I think GGHD and Telesilla) were mentioning the spiritual warfare angle re: riots and the like?

    https://www.thenewamerican.com/culture/faith-and-morals/item/36848-hail-satan-after-terrorizing-churches-blm-witchcraft-exposed

I haven’t listened to the full interview clips yet but it seems a lot of it is excerpted in the text. This is absolutely chilling. It’s not about live and let live anymore. It’s not about individual choices or religious freedom or whatever else. Religious freedom doesn’t mean you get to attack your fellow Americans exercising theirs.

From 2 Corinthians chapter 11. Paul calls it!:

“But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent’s cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ. For if someone comes to you and preaches a Jesus other than the Jesus we preached, or if you receive a different spirit from the Spirit you received, or a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it easily enough. ….. For such people are false apostles, deceitful workers, masquerading as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. It is not surprising, then, if his servants also masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve.”

THEY MEAN WAR. How many American Christians are versed in spiritual warfare? How many CHURCHES have publicly declared SUPPORT for the BLM organization? We’ve grown soft and deceived, I’m afraid. But these weapons are even more important than the “precious metals” we so diligently cast or purchase for stocking, and the guns or knives we sometimes put too much hope in.

(Why is this story not boosted into virality? Oh, wait, it’s un-woke. Or manipulated media. Or….)

    1. Bear!
Such a thoughtful and caring message to try to awaken everyone to the battle at hand… You’re asking very good questions.

From your post: “How many American Christians are versed in spiritual warfare? How many CHURCHES have publicly declared SUPPORT for the BLM organization? We’ve grown soft and deceived…”

The answer is that far too few American Christians are versed in spiritual warfare for which there — alongside eternal concerns — are also very real physical — think “survival” — implications.

You are exactly right. We have grown soft, and deceived. The consequences are going to be severe, and turning this around is going to be extraordinarily hard work. We must not fear the hard work, or delay it.

    2. Bear, you are right.

Some of the ‘leaders’ of the Black Lives Matter movement are involved with the Occult, Witchcraft, and contacting the dead for guidance [Necromancy]. … Plus, many people involved with BLM are economic Marxist in outlook.
[All revealed easily with a basic Internet Search.]
………. [~Marxism is based on a materialistic understanding of the world. … Marxists seem to focus completely on ~money; other people’s money. …. In economic Marxism, there are NO spirits, No Necromancy, + a God in Heaven is denied.]

Much of the modern ‘Marxist’ agenda for the ‘socially woke’ people, seem to be based on ‘liberating’ someone else’s money and ‘stuff’ for the ‘people’ i.e. = ~>themselves. … The political idea of “You didn’t earn that” is a popular slogan for many politically ‘socially woke’ people (grabbing stuff).

There is a pushback against the egregious ideas of BLM by some Black Pastors of Christian Churches. The link by Bear is a good starting point to understand the BLM, and the ~pushback by some Christian Churches.

Unfortunately, many people, still involved with the Black Lives Matter movement, ignore the promises the United States brings to its own citizens, and the rest of the world. (Summed up nicely by our Pledge of Allegiance)

“I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America
and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation
under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”

  3. The insanity surrounding the news — and the news itself — is increasing. The word “hysteria” comes to mind — not in a casual sense, but in a very serious and sobering way.

There is also a lot of oddity. The following is an example. What in the world was going on here?

    https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2020/09/fox-news-panel-melts-newt-gingrich-correctly-calls-lawless-soros-funded-district-attorneys-video/

If there is a challenge to the veracity of the claim, then why not just state that challenge or disagreement… But in this case, Gingrich was simply shut down. It was a bizarre moment in news, and on Fox??? Strange. Really strange.

    1. You have to remember who is now on the board of Fox Corp. That would be the neoconservative Paul Ryan. Also the Murdoch kids now run the whole shootin’ match. The Murdoch kids are all leftists. The fact that the truth about Soros and the politicians and bureaucrats he supports is now off limits, even at Fox, shouldn’t be surprising. Now we need to see if Hannity and Tucker Carlson and Laura Ingraham still has Mr. Newt on their shows. Time will tell.

  4. We often talk about how Radical Leftists use the strategies of Communists (of all stripes and varieties). The following article talks about something called the “Color Revolution” as a strategy to defeat President Trump in his reelection — or alternatively and at a minimum to delegitimatize his 2nd term (assuming reelection).

Title: Revolver Exclusive — Meet Norm Eisen: Legal Hatchet Man and Central Operative in the “Color Revolution” Against President Trump

    https://www.revolver.news/2020/09/meet-norm-eisen-legal-hatchet-man-and-central-operative-in-the-color-revolution-against-president-trump/

…and a second article related to election night, and a determination of election results. There is no question in my own mind. The Democrats intend to try to steal the election. America, we cannot allow this to happen. There are only 2 choices before us: Donald Trump or Joe Biden (until such time as Kamala Harris takes over — remember the references to the Harris-Biden administration which was probably a trial balloon). One of these individuals will be our next President.
