Stress and Cardiovascular Disease

Reader DSV sent this: Chronic Stress Raises Your Risk of Several Types of Cardiovascular Disease. here is a snippet:

“Recent research shows people with stress related disorders are 29% more likely to develop cardiovascular disease compared to a sibling without a stress disorder, and 37% more likely compared to the general population.

Within the first year of a stress diagnosis, the risk for cardiovascular disease is even greater — 64% greater than that of a sibling and 71% greater than the general population. The link is also particularly strong for those under the age of 50.

Previous research has demonstrated that stress increases your risk of heart attack and stroke by causing overactivity in your amygdala, your brain’s fear center.

As your stress level rises, so does your level of disease-promoting white blood cells, and this is yet another way by which stress can lead to atherosclerosis, plaque rupture and heart attack.

Freedom Versus Liberty

A new essay, over at Ammo.com: Freedom vs. Liberty: How Subtle Differences Between These Two Big Ideas Changed Our World. I pulled this quote:

“To better understand what freedom and liberty mean, it’s helpful to look at the respective etymologies of these words, digging into their histories and how they developed.

    Words mean things. Only the government can censor citizens.
    Interestingly, Matt Bracken and Zoxee started up FreeZoxee as a conservative’s alternative to facebook and YouTube. I tried to politely post comments supportive of Jesus’s principle of non-aggression and the ‘Golden Rule’ (Matthew 7:12). Guess what? Yep, the uncivilized wrath of the operators came down on me. I was called every name in the book. Even though I regularly supported the site financially, I was asked in no uncertain terms to leave.

    My point: So-called Conservatives have abandoned their principles. They have become their enemy. Agenda trumps everything now, even Jesus.

  2. I don’t understand the argument here. These companies are private entities and can set their own rules, just like a cake shop.

    If you want to establish a Department of Social Media that runs a clone of YouTube, then yes, they would be bound by the first Amendment. Facebook and Chase Bank can and will do whatever their board of directors decides.

        As I see it, we can have it one way or the other, but not both.

      2. I see VAGUS simply pointing to reality. Whether any of us is okay with any site banning content because of political, affectional, or religious reason becomes a different discussion.

        1. I totally agree, free speech must be free of censorship of any kind. the First Amendment was not about hearing only things you agree with and don’t upset you, it’s there for the things that do.

    1. The Big Tech companies, operate like ~public conveyances. The Railroads, Airlines, Bus Companies, and Truck Companies are NOT allowed to determine the ‘political’ suitability of their customers.

      [There are quite a few cases in our courts, that say politics shouldn’t be used to deny public service to people, even by private companies. Usually, it involves communists and civil rights situations.]

      The Internet is dependent on the government regulation (and development) of the electrical system, satellites in space, plus the ‘cell towers’ etc.

      The Big Tech companies are more like the private Rail Roads, and the huge monopolies, that are/were regulated by our government, than a small cake making shop. Size does matter in situations approaching monopolies.

      Plus, Matt Drudge accurately predicted that ~censorship would occur. [Drudge said this long before it occurred. Apparently, somehow he learned about the Big Tech plans; the company owners had in place.]
      The Big Tech Companies seemed to all reach the same decision to start censoring politics they didn’t like, about the same time. If there is any ~Collusion occurring now days, it seems to be occurring among the Big Tech Companies.
      …….. The ‘Rules Devised’ by Big Tech are applied to people and enterprises, the owners of Big Tech do NOT like ~politically here in the USA.

      The Power of the US Government is understood by Our Declaration of Indpendance. “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

      It seems to be time for our government to use the Big Hammer, to hammer out Justice here in the USA. The Big Monopolies need to be busted apart, to help ensure freedom.

    Unfortunately it is almost impossible to just emigrate to America from England, unless you have a large sum of money to invest in creating a business. You can not even participate in the “Green Card Lottery “ if you are English, the US government has determined there are enough of us here already so we are not needed to increase ethnic diversity!
    I know because I have navigated the process of moving from England to America. I am now a proud American Citizen after a lot of time and money.
    I first came to America on a 3 year visa for the English company I worked for, during that time I met and married a wonderful American lady. We then began the long process of getting a Green card. Then taking the extra step of becoming a US Citizen.
    During the 20 years I have lived in America (the last 12 as a citizen). I have noticed a very worrying trend, away from the freedoms and opportunities that first attracted me to America. I fear if we are not vigilant we will go the way of England. One freedom lost at a time until there are none left.

  4. Riley Howell, 21, died after rushing to take down gunman Trystan Terrell, who shot several students on campus Tuesday, killing two. Witnesses say Howell’s charge succeeded in knocking Terrell down and helping police detain him.

    “Absolutely, Mr. Howell saved lives,” said Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Kerr Putney.

    Putney said Howell did what police recommend people do in active shooter situations, saying “you’re either going to run, you’re going to hide and shield, or you’re going to take the fight to the assailant. Having no place to run or hide, he did the last.”

    “He took the fight to the assailant,” Putney said. “Unfortunately, he had to give his life to do so, but he saved lives doing so.”

    This is what I took from the link. This young man’s parents deserve our love and respect for raising such a generous and courageous human being. May they find comfort in their sorrow.

  5. re-bans in England ? also NZ !!!!!

    NZ has now banned all AR15 Rifles, pump shotgun’s over 5 rds, semi auto shotguns of all types, mag fed, tube fed. Up till three week’s ago, pump shotguns like the 590 etc could still be bought, [ currently 5 shot shotgun’s are allowed ] now 250,000 gun owner’s are up the creek, the Gvt also has decreed that it want’s us to hand over ALL our now banned arm’s in the next six month’s, there is no set date when people will be reimbursed for their lss of property, after that confiscation, will apply, also the amount of buyback money has blown out from 100 million to 800 million ( and going rapidly northwards ).

    Now CA is being targeted, LA Rifles are on the list as well, you understand why so many are angry ? all political parties have formed a bi partisan approach and all agree on the ban’s.

    We all got NZ Police e-mails stating we have six months and terms & condition’s on the NZ Police website.

    Of note, the price each buy back item will be determined by a closed committee. NZ has 1.5 million gun’s for about 4.75 million people, quite a lot, that work’s out to about 5 guns per owner, then there is the scopes, fittings, slings, mags, part’s, it will cost the taxpayer BILLIONS.

    it took the NZ Gvt three day’s to enact the legislation, three day’s ! Gvt won’t get out of bed on a Saturday for anyone !, the cynic in me knows the NZ Police & Gvt have been foaming at the bit to change the gun laws in NZ for a long time, they just needed an excuse to do so. They have the perfect reason now, they are importing ” expert’s ” from Australia, to give them ” advice ” on how to implement the 1984 laws we have now, we are ALL royally screwed, and yes, the back biting and vicious back stabbing has already started in the firearms community, most are turning on each other, so many are apathetic.

    Me ? I saw this coming, how ? my parent’s were imprisoned, tortured by the secret Police in Ministry of State in CZ. My father drummed into me, NEVER TRUST THE GVT, NEVER TRUST THE POLICE, they will disarm you, NEVER register you’re gun’s, if you do, one day you will receive a bullitt in the back of you’re head.

    So much for moderate Socialism huh ?
