SurvivalBlog’s News From The American Redoubt

Here is SurvivalBlog’s News From The American Redoubt. This weekly column features news stories and event announcements from around the American Redoubt region. We also mention companies of interest to preppers that are located in the region. The emphasis this week is on the Salmon-Challis National Forest Plan.

Region-Wide

The Redoubt series appears to have been completed at The Sandpoint Reader tabloid newspaper. The latest (last?) installment was: The American Redoubt Series: The anatomy of a one-party state: How Idaho has become more conservative since the 1990s

That article had a bit of a “Sour Grapes” tone to it. The author seems to long for the bygone days of Democrat Governor Cecil Andrus and his cronies.  At least the author conceded that the Republican Party is now firmly controls Idaho’s legislature and governorship. This is in part confirmation that the American Redoubt relocation program is working. We are helping to make what was already a Red State a deeper shade of red. It is also noteworthy that the Redoubt movement is helping to seat more conservative, libertarian-leaning Republican candidates, to replace the old crop of “centrists”. (Some of these politicians were confirmed Republicans in Name Only (RINOs.)

Prevailing Winds of Change

Similar shifts are underway in Wyoming and Montana. Wyoming’s population is aging, shrinking slightly, and getting more solidly conservative.  Meanwhile, Montana’s population is growing, but gradually shifting away from pro-Union Democrat politics.   Time is on our side, in both of those States. But the same is very unlikely in Oregon and Washington. There, the politics are dominated in their populous western halves of those States, by liberals.  The hope is that Eastern Oregon and Eastern Washington (East of the Cascades) will be allowed to partition to become new States of the Union.  That is the logical course of events, since those States are so sharply divided, demographically.  Be vocal, and it could happen!  These changes always start at the grass roots, so get involved in local politics.

Idaho (Salmon-Challis National Forest Plan)

SurvivalBlog reader R.J.  sent this word of warning: “The US Forest Service is in the process of ‘revising’ Idaho’s Salmon-Challis National Forest Plan. The current plans were finalized in 1988. Their [current] planning methodology is to:

1. Completely ignore the previous plans and all unfulfilled promises made so they can turn more lands into Wilderness and make new promises. They are not “revising”, they are starting with a blank page.
2. Partner with local and out of state environmental groups and NGOs in drafting the planning documents.
3. Ignore the Idaho Roadless Rule (signed in 2008) which limits what the Federal Government can do to its lands in Idaho.

A group of local citizens has formed the Lemhi-Custer Grassroots Advisory to represent our rights. Contact Dorothy Moon: dorothym@custertel.net for more information. The U.S. Forest Service has a web site for taking public comments.” JWR’s Comment:  Wake up, Idahoans, or you can expect the full Leftist/Statist/Environmentalist Whacko Agenda to be applied in your National Forest  and BLM lands. Let your voice be heard!

This small company in Idaho Falls is definitely worth a mention: ArmoryPlastics.com.  They make very nice thermoformed and injection molded Kydex sheaths for Mora knives. (These are JWR’s favorite low-cost utility knives. Up until recently, their only drawback is that many Mora knives are supplied with flimsy sheaths or sometimes don’t even come with a sheath. But Armory Plastics has solved that problem.) BTW, their well-designed injection molded belt clips are often bought in bulk and used by other sheath and holster makers.

  1. Re: Fort Belknap Indian Reservation article.

Imagine that congress undertook to rewrite all those outdated treaties and gave the Indians freedom. They could keep their lands, perhaps incorporate them so they could be used for the benefit of their people. They could become self-sufficient, work, pay taxes, live freely and take care of themselves. It is way past time for this, perhaps should have been done 100 years ago.

    1. Maybe the Indian reservations should become their own sovereign states. Make that with all the same rights and responsibilities as everyone else. They could even become American tax havens, if they are smart. If their is a uSA breakup they then become their own sovereign nations.
