Preparedness Notes for Saturday — October 10, 2020

We’ve just started our big Pre-Election Sale, at Elk Creek Company I’ve reduced the prices on every gun in my inventory. The chances of a contested election are fairly high, so this is your chance to tuck away a few pre-1899 guns, just in case. Imagine if Creepy Joe Biden wins, and we end up with a ban on private party sales, nationwide. (So-called “Universal Background Checks.”)  It is important to have a few guns that are out of Federal jurisdiction–and hence exempt. And heaven help us if we end up with Nancy Pelosi as “Interim President.”  This sale ends on November 2nd, 2020. But order soon, as the ordering will surely be brisk.

  1. Suspects in Michigan plot hid their cellphones in a box to be safe but failed to check one another for wires, FBI says

Op-Ed: The biggest threats to American democracy? White nationalists and politicians who embrace them

    1. Honestly I can’t get through your bottom yahoo article declaring white nationalism the biggest threat to America. I’m not seeing it. But I am seeing cities burn to the ground and law enforcement murdered and strongholds of looting due to black nationalism.

    2. More on the plot: The news raced through the encrypted chats of leaders in the far-right militia movement: The Feds got Barry Croft.

Croft, one of 13 men charged Thursday in connection with a domestic terrorism plot to kidnap Michigan’s Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, was a visible figure on the message boards and Facebook pages of the so-called “Patriot Movement.” NPR interviews with associates who know him from that world portray a power-hungry figure whose angling for stature was unsettling at times. Now that Croft is in custody and his connections under scrutiny, their fear is: Who’s next?

Extensive recordings and surveillance described in the court papers show how deeply the FBI had infiltrated the alleged plotters – sometimes with more than one informant or undercover operative at the same event. Investigators were inside encrypted chats where the suspects allegedly communicated in code, using “baker” and a “cake” in reference to an explosives provider and a bomb. They were along for a car ride to case the vacation home where the suspects allegedly planned to kidnap the governor and spirit her to Wisconsin for a “trial.”

In June, at a meeting site in Grand Rapids, Michigan, court documents say, the suspects entered a basement through a trap door hidden by a rug. Once inside, the men were ordered to turn over their cell phones, which were placed in a box and taken upstairs as a security precaution. But one of the people present was an informant wearing a device.

Prosecutors say that meeting, too, was recorded.

      Two things stand out.

      1. Barry Croft. Who is he, really.

      2. The deep penetration of this group by feds. Anytime you have someone in your group suggesting a violent solution to a problem, sniff him carefully for FBI scent. Then check for listening devices.

      Carry on

  2. I seriously do not understand your concept of pre-1899 guns being “safe”. If it ever comes to .gov going door to door for gun confiscation, does anyone really believe those will be safe from being seized?

    1. If they’re not registered then the authorities don’t know who has them. That’s also the case for those who bought guns that didn’t require a FFL through private-party sales if those were/still are legal where you live. All gun sales now where I live have to have FFL’s done so the government will ALWAYS know who has bought what. Still an allowance for immediate family to “gift” guns etc but if they were registered, the government could get ugly about demanding to know where it is.

So if you have guns the government doesn’t know about you could conceivably hide them/bury them. If they know what you bought you’d have a hard time convincing them you lost them all while out on a row boat! Least this is how I think it goes. Correct me if I’m wrong JWR and other more knowledgeable folks.

    2. I’ve addressed this before. Yes, the JBTs are likely to seize everything. But at least with pre-1899s, you have a VERY good chance of getting them returned, with an apology. But modern guns, in violation of a new registration law would surely mean a felony. Not only would you never get them back (monetary loss), but you woudl also have a felony conviction which result in permanent loss of both gun rights and in most states also your voting rights.

      1. I respect your opinion and enjoy the site, but if it ever comes to mass confiscation there is little chance of anything seized by the government being returned and most likely even less of a chance millions upon millions of firearms are voluntarily turned in. Felonies be damned. Many will simply ignore the laws just as “sanctuary” cities do so.
