The Legislative Onslaught Begins: Federal Gun Grabbing in 2019

As they promised, the Democrat Party majority in the U.S. House of Representatives is wasting no time in gun grabbing in 2019. They are launching a raft of new civilian disarmament legislation. Although there is still a Republican majority in the U.S. Senate, there is a risk that some of these bills may be passed into law, following some across the aisle quid pro quo deal-making or legislative bundling. What I fear most is President Trump accepting such a deal, in order to get his coveted Border wall funded. I’m also concerned that some grand “compromise” might be reached, with the laudable Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act (introduced but not passed by the previous Congress) thrown into a package of legislation that would include one or more anti-gun bills.

There have already been three bills introduced or announced, and undoubtedly there are many more now being drafted. This will be a veritable onslaught of legislation. They seem intent on doing it California Style: That is, throwing a bunch of bills against the wall, in the hope that some of them will stick:

A Federal Red Flag Law

In the U.S. Senate both Democrats and a few Republicans have re-introduces S.7, a bill that seeks to encourage states to pass red-flag laws that would make it easier for courts to disarm “dangerous people.” It is titled the “Extreme Risk Protection Order and Violence Prevention Act.” Led by Republican in Name Only (RINO) Marco Rubio, this law has a good chance of passage, and alarmingly President DJT has promised to sign such legislation.

The proposed law flies in the face of the American tradition and the constitutional promise of Due Process, under the 14th Amendment. Typically, Red Flag laws do no give the accused any opportunity to defend themselves in court before having all of their firearms and ammunition seized by force. It is only post facto that they have their day in court, and then they must essentially beg to have their birthright restored. This is very bad legislation. I predict that the inevitable doorstep confrontations with police will result in far more deaths than the massacres that the authors of this bill claim will be prevented.

A Federal Semi-Auto and Magazine Ban

Senator Dianne Feinstein (D.-California) has once again introduced S. 66, a ban on many semi-autos and magazines holding more than 10 cartridges. This monumentally unconstitutional bill is even worse than its previous incarnations, for several reasons:

  • It bans 205 models by name, and hundreds of other models, by description, to wit: “…any ‘assault weapon’ that accepts a detachable ammunition magazine and has one or more military characteristics including a pistol grip, a forward grip, a barrel shroud, a threaded barrel or a folding or telescoping stock.”
  • It vaguely bans “parts that can give semi-auto firearms the rate of fire of machineguns.” Unless the law delimits a specific rate, then it is void for vagueness. And consider that a skilled shooter can achieve a rate of fie of nearly 700 rounds per minute, with a standard trigger. For comparison, an M3 Greasegun fires full auto at a rate of 450 rounds per minute.
  • It has a Grandfather Clause, but requires a Federal background check for subsequent transfers–even for a father passing a gun down to his son as a gift.
  • Requires that grandfathered “assault” weapons be stored using a secure gun storage vault or with safety device like a trigger lock. This would make them unavailable for quick use in self-defense situations.
  • Prohibits the transfer of high-capacity ammunition magazines. Once this law goes into effect, the 11+ round magazines that you own will become your lifetime supply. And once you die, it will be a Federal crime to pass them down to your children. They can only be turned in for destruction.
  • It bans pistol arm braces. These have become very popular for ARs, AKs, and even shotgun “firearms”, in recent years. It is not yet clear if this part of the ban would have a Grandfather Clause.
  • Bans stocks that are “otherwise foldable or adjustable in a manner that operates to reduce the length, size, or any other dimension, or otherwise enhances the concealability of a firearm.”
  • It will ban Thordsen-type grips and stocks. This makes the new law an unconstitutional Bill of Attainder, since it singles out one company’s products, by name.
  • It has no Sunset Clause. This will be permanent legislation, with no sure end in sight. (At least the 1994-2004 Federal ban had light at the end of the tunnel. This will be a ban with No Hope.)
  • Violations of most of the provisions of this law are Federal felonies. Conviction would result in the permanent loss of most other gun rights and the right to vote.

The Government Printing Office (GPO) web site reported: “As of 01/14/2019 text has not been received for S .66,”  So we don’t yet have the exact wording of the bill–only what Feinstein’s staffers have summarized, at her web page.

I predict that if Feinstein’s bill is signed into law, it will immediately cause 100% or more inflation in Pre-Ban black rifle prices, and 1,000% inflation after just a few years. It will be roughly analogous to the inflationary effect of the 1986 Machinegun Freeze, but on a grand scale. All bans and freezes with Grandfather Clauses cause galloping prices.

It bears mentions that all of those are Democrats, except for socialist but nominally Independent Bernie Sanders.

A Federal Ban on Private Party Sales of Used Guns

Under the innocuous-sounding goals of “Universal Background Checks” and “Closing the Gun Show Loophole”, H.R. 8, a bill has been introduced and put on the fast-track for passage. Dubbed the Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2019, this is a horrible piece of legislation that probably would not survive a test by the Supreme Court. The key issue is that it is a ban on inherently intrastate commerce (sales of used merchandise between private party residents of the same state) by stretching the meaning of the Interstate Commerce Clause. Clearly, there is no INTERstate commerce involved, since an INTRAstate sale of a used gun is outside of interstate commerce!  I expect the current court to expand the U.S. v. Lopez precedent, the next time that the Commerce Clause is tested vis-a-vis the Second Amendment.

This background check law would also undoubtedly trip up hundreds of thousands of “unlawful users” of controlled substances. They would be forced to lie in their responses to the ATF Form 4473 questions.  Providing false answers on that form is a felony, with a penalty of up to 10 years in prison. It is noteworthy that both medical and recreational use of marijuana is still a Federal violation, even though it is now “legalized” in many states. Eight states and the District of Columbia allow recreational marijuana, while 29 states allow medical use.

Roll Call reported: “Five Democrats and five Republicans signed on as original co-sponsors of the bill. GOP Reps. Brian Mast of Florida, Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania, Peter T. King of New York, Fred Upton of Michigan, and Christopher H. Smith of New Jersey joined Democrats Jerrold Nadler of New York, Sheila Jackson Lee of Texas, Robin Kelly of Illinois, Lucy McBath of Georgia, and Thompson.”

As a prepper, I am particularly concerned about requiring a phoned-in FBI National Instant Check System (NICS) background check for all sales of post-1898 guns. I assume that it will become a felony to privately sell a modern gun outside of the NICS process. If there is ever a natural or man-made disaster that takes down either the power grid or the phone networks, then there will be no sales of modern guns until those systems are restored!  And even a government shutdown or a localized emergency that affects FBI administrative functions could bring gun sales to a halt, nationwide.

Lastly, this law would essentially ruin gun shows as we currently know them–reducing them to flea markets where you can buy ammo, jerky, and pepper spray, but not much else. Presently, the majority of gun show tables are operated by private parties, rather than Federally-licensed dealers. Many of those vendors will likely quit renting tables, if this horrible law is enacted.

This Legislation Must Be Stopped!

Please, contact your congressman and senator, and do so often, and politely. Make it clear that they will NOT be-re-elected if they vote for any anti-gun legislation. I recommend that you mark your calendar to make contacts once every two weeks for the foreseeable future. Alternate between phone calls, snail mail, faxes, and e-mails. When you make calls, pay attention to when your representatives are back in their districts, on legislative breaks. Make your calls to their in-state offices during those breaks.

  1. Gun shows I attend have many tables filled with guns offered by FFL sellers, and a few private sale tables. The last show I attended had 700 tables. I have never seen a gun show that is mostly private sellers of firearms. That would be interesting.

    1. Having a majority of private sellers is still the norm in states like Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, and Utah. That is traditionally how gun shows were in all of The 50, back before Statist legislators in coastal states got intrusive. By requiring background checks they push the Mom and Pop table holders out of gun shows. The privacy of transactions is destroyed. Gun shows then become part of the intelligence-gathering apparatus and societal Control Grid. Sales of used guns between private sellers (who are residents of the same state) is one of the last bastions of American Liberty. This is why stopping “Universal Background Checks” is so crucial. The “loophole” in the “gun show loophole” is your birthright that they want to rob from you. Don’t let Congress and DJT force you to trade it for a bowl of “feel good” appeasement pottage. Never forget that a “background check” is asking yea/nay Mother May I permission of government to exercise a Constitutional Right.

Background check requirements should be null and void, as the bedrock of American jurisprudence is the Constitutional assumption of innocence unless a charge is otherwise proven beyond a reasonable doubt via due process. Background checks upend that and assume you’re guilty of something, requiring you to beg permission first to assert your Constitutional right.

        I’m just wondering when this simple but potent argument will finally make its way to SCOTUS? Perhaps through the GOA’s efforts one day?

  2. Even if these foolish bills are stopped now, it is almost a certainty that sometime in the next decade, these people will have majorities in congress and the presidency. All the more reason to get whatever firearms one can foreseeably need now. And maybe even give some of one’s firearms to one’s descendants now. Grandfather clause indeed!

          1. But Republicans are far more likely to write and vote for legislation that helps gun owners. Bush II allowed the magazine 10 round ban to sunset for example. For 10 years, magazine capacity was restricted to 10 rounds. Older full capacity magazines were priced in the stratosphere. Once the legislation died, mental sanity returned.

            I think the gun industry gains more from anti-gun legislation than the the politicians. Much higher profits. Remember when tricked out ARs were sold for a few THOUSAND ? And getting buyers at that. Check to see the price of the items and prove me wrong.

    1. The government cannot be trusted no matter WHO is the president or who runs congress. It is OUR responsibility to set up our own personal networks for trading and obtaining the tools that we find necessary to protect ourselves and our families. Better do it now, because the day is coming when all such activity will be illegal. And that goes for ALL matters concerning our families’ well-being, safety, and spiritual needs.   4. In occupied NY where I live one Senator has already proposed 2 bills. The first would grant the state access to all electronic media in the form of Facebook twitter and other private posts and all web searches for the previous 3 years of any pistol permit holder. To attain and keep a permit all account info and passwords would be sent to the state. The same NYC dem has just proposed mandating a one million dollar liability policy be maintained by all gun owners! Gun grabbing one oh one, death by a thousand cuts!

  7. The truly sad part of all of this, is that the republicans had two years to fix this and protect the second amendment and did nothing. They had two years to fix the wall issue and did nothing. As I wrote a while back and I agree with Mr. Rawles, I am afraid he will trade anything to get this wall.

      1. I literally have my NRA renewal application on my desk next to me as I type this. You know, one of the packets they send to you asking for more money. For the first time over a lifetime of firearm ownership, I’m allowing my NRA membership to expire (switching over to GOA and FPC), and will be writing a letter to the NRA explaining exactly why.

        I have no doubt that there are many good staffers within the NRA who are passionately working to do the right thing, but unfortunately the leadership isn’t producing results. Reminds me of a labor union, where the employees generally just want to get to work, and the few at the top are skewing things for their own gain.

The argument in court over banning private sales would/should be one of simply the right of a free person to their own property, and the choosing of its disposition to another free person, whether in sale, barter, or gift. That said, in this time, if one thinks a rule-of-law determination is an “automatic” by even the current Supreme Court, you are high on something.

  9. I used to live in Oregon. I moved to Idaho 5 years ago because of Oregon politics. I was recently visiting in Oregon and went to a gun show to see what was available. The Portland gun show used to be so big it took up the entire facility. Now it is relegated to an ante-room room about one tenth the size that it used to be. A few private sellers offering part kits Etc. A half-dozen FFL dealers. The rest then was mostly knives, archery, and various other non-firearm items. I was able to pick up some parts that I needed, but that was it. What what used to be a three or four hour event to see everything, now took me less than a half an hour to walk the entire show. Conversely I went to a gun show a couple of months ago in Idaho. Purchased a new revolver, and a 22wmr rifle, and paid cash with no hassles. I used to be proud to be from Oregon, no longer, I’m proud now to be from the great state of Idaho!

  10. In the same way some states ignore federal marijuana and immigration law, I would hope that some states would ignore civilian disarmament laws. I don’t think the Deep State/Fed
    would allow non-compliance like they have with pot laws, since one makes citizens less likely to resist enslavement, and the other gives them the means to. The Redoubt and other free states need to pass Will Not Comply legislation, and HOLD FIRM, up to and including succession. However, I won’t be holding my breath.

  11. A “Constitutional Carry” Act/Legislation is just a permission slip from the Federal Corp, just like a carry Permit from any state Corp.

    That permission slip can be revoked at any time.

    The only permission slip you need is the Right you were born with to self protection.

    Even if they were to remove the 2nd, you still have that right.

    ALL Gun laws passed by any state that go against the 2nd are null and void. That includes carry permits. But the cops/sheriffs sure are willing to violate there oath by enforcing those “laws”.

    Permission is for slaves. A US citizen is a slave. Learn the difference between a US citizen and a Citizen of one of the several States. The US citizen was Created by Congress in 1866. It’s a fiction.

The most peaceable way to prevent this is to take our Country back by simply voting every single ruminant presently in both houses out of office at the next available opportunity. All have the other, or write in, option. Use it! I realize it’s extremely hard to co-ordinate mass write in candidates, but we have (still) the use of blogs such as this outstanding one, as well as e-mail to come up with potential candidates. I suggest we SERIOUSLY start using this avenue.
    Except for the provision of Congress having to be 35 yr old, a class of 8th graders could do a much more coherent job than is presently done.
    We need to continually, en masse, start calling these ignoramuses on their crap and hold them accountable.
    In further study I find that not only are the feds not allowed to make any regulation controlling the keeping and bearing (in the original/Constitutional meaning of bearing, it pertains to carrying) arms. The States are also prohibited from regulating the keeping and bearing of arms. Previously I was under the impression the feds could not due to the infringement clause and the States were prohibited due to the Militia clause.
    I would encourage everyone to read the history pertaining to the keeping and bearing of arms. A very well researched and written book: “That Every Man Be Armed” The Evolution of a Constitutional Right – by Stephen P. Halbrook – Covers the history of keeping and bearing arms from the Grecian/Roman era to present day. The 2nd and it’s true meaning will be come much more clear. It should be available at your local library, but it’s well worth having in your library as well.

    If we cannot get our Country back peaceably. Then all bets are off. Let the Games Begin! I’m just guessing here, but I’m estimating things will get progressively worse for the next 2 years, at the outermost 4-5. Then, if the grid, and or banks, don’t implode before then, All bets are off. B Ready!!!

  16. I’m old enough to remember when NICS was first being floated as an idea. There were those of us back then who said “No way! If this gets passed, they won’t stop. Ever.”

    Nobody listened. Instead, they passed it and told us that it “did not affect private sales between individuals”. They were exempt. Because a) an American can do as they damn well please with their own private property and b) if it included private sales, it would mean asking the government for “permission” to exercise a right (which would nullify it as a right and turn it into a privilege). And privileges can be awarded or rescinded by the Elites for any reason. Or no reason.

    And, here we are, 30+ years on and yes, they are pushing for more. Call it something non-threatening like “Universal Background Checks” to disarm the Normies. You can paint a creepy white van with a tear-stained mattress in the back to like an Ice Cream Truck, but that don’t make it one. It makes it exactly what it is: evil with a nice-looking face.

    Looks like it’s coming down to it, lads. I didn’t think I would live to see it, but here it is, on our doorstep. France is burning, with non-French “cops” dropping “non-lethal” munitions on the Yellow Jackets from above, with some dead, wounded and maimed as a result.

    Germany’s KSK (and I met a few of those guys back in The Day – they’re good men) have a list of those they consider “traitors” – only thing I can see them waiting on is timing.

    Economic Ragnarok draws closer, with POTUS laying the groundwork for The Fed to take the blame. Here in the US, we have traitors, Marxists and no-shit communists in our own government working at cross-purposes in order to destroy the US. AntiFa are their Brownshirts (it’s right handy to have an easily-disavowed army of violent thugs to go after the Undesirables you don’t like…)..

    The next 24 months are going to be very interesting, so dress appropriately. And I don’t know how religious you all are, but I’m thinking it might be a good time to get right with The Man (if you’re not) before this all goes China Syndrome.

  17. Don’t forget that this fight has to take place at both the federal and state level. State Democrats are feeling their oats as well, even here in NH, where the legislature not so long ago figured out that we don’t need their permission to carry concealed. An “extreme risk protection order” is being introduced here this session. Check your state’s legislation lists frequently and keep your eyes peeled.

    And definitely do some writing, calling and face-to-face visiting to make the case. Posting here can make you feel good, but is preaching to the choir. Take advantage of the soap box in hopes of averting the need to revert to the ammo box.

  18. In Canada we had a gun registry that failed. But all handguns and some rifles like AR are still registered and restricted for use at a range only. Other than those we can buy from store or online or a private person anywhere in Canada just by presenting a licence. Each gun owner is licensed and vetted. Although most mags are limited to 5 or 10 we can buy a 30round pinned to 5. Unfortunately the city folk would like to ban everything even though almost all gun violence is unlicenced gangs. Liberals have momentum so we are in a battle to maintain what we have.

  19. We might want to consider putting a petition on the White House web site to directly inform Pres Trump how we actually view these bills. Trump is not a bad guy but he sometimes follows his emotions instead of the “Supreme Law of the Land”. Not a single petition, but a petition for each of these bills and any upcoming legislation these lunatics come up with.

    Check with your own state and see if there is a petition process like there is federally. I know in my case, I have 2 Dem senators, 1 Dem Rep, 1 Dem state senator, and 1 Dem state rep. Passage of bills such as this which make a law-abiding citizen a felon at the stroke of a pen, then paints all those good citizens into a corner as far as the law is concerned, and IS going to end badly. The photo at the top of the page is from the australian “buyback” in 1997. the lying vermin in gubmint and the media called it a buyback of firearms, hinting that they once owned the things, hence buying them back. The fact of the matter was that they legally had to pay compensation for property wich was taken by gubmint, so they raised the medicare levy a couple percent to fund the buyback.

  24. I just wrote all my states reps (in the redoubt) to vote no on all of these. Also asked them to consider making our state a Gun Sanctuary state where the feds law means nothing. Also wrote that I don’t know of a single 2nd Amendment supporting conservative that would willingly give up their right without a fight, at the ballot box or on the doorstep. Who changed that to permit carry in National Parks? Obama. Who stopped storage of guns in luggage on Amtrak trains? GW Bush. Who restored the right to carry guns in luggage on Amtrak? Obama. Who ended importation of great guns like the FInnish Valmet rifles, as well as ALL types of “non-sporting” weapons? GHW Bush. In fact there are very few legislators or presidents (or even conservative judges) who are 100% in favor of NOT infringing on the right to keep and bear arms. Despite a lot of talk, Obama did almost nothing to take away gun rights (as he did almost nothing of any sort in his administration), while Reagan, both Bushes, and Trump have each unilaterally taken away gun rights without hesitation.Throughout history virtually ALL political leaders have wanted to get guns out of the hands of citizens (unless those citizens where accepting government paychecks, as military or police). I personally expect gun rights to vanish in the not too distant future. I suggest gun owners begin thinking of ways to sidestep a ban.   26. Well folks, I’ve worried and worried about this for 20 years or so. It now occurs to me that the foreseeable situation is exactly why our Founders wrote the 2A in the first place. Every sane Patriot (and some sane non-Patriots) had hoped that the mere threat implied by the Second Amendment would be enough to deter wannabe tyrants…forever. Sadly, they’re not that easy – never have been – never will be.

    If we really had the COURAGE of our forefathers (talking to myself here), we wouldn’t be worried about them taking our guns, because we would be secure in the fact that this type of traitorous, tyrannical activity is PRECISELY WHY WE HAVE A GOD-GIVEN, CONSTITUTIONALLY PROTECTED RIGHT TO HAVE THEM IN THE FIRST PLACE!

  28. When you read “universal background checks” think “Universal Gun Registration”, because that’s what they will need to make it work. After all, how would the government possibly know what guns that millions of private citizens have bought or sold to each other and how could you force them to participate?

    They know it’s unworkable, and unenforceable without registration, but they will go ahead and pass it anyway. They’ll call it another “reasonable” gun law. When a few years have gone by, and everyone is used to it, and it appears to be a toothless law, they’ll come out with fake news stories and studies from the NIH saying the background check is not working. They’ll say that millions of people are not complying, so we need a “Universal Gun Registration System”. Bet on it.

    You have to realize that the Left literally has armies of smart lawyers working 24/7 trying to figure out sneaky ways to pass thousands of gun laws, at both the federal and state level. They also have plenty of Bloomberg and Soros money. But, they are willing to take small bites. Small incremental bites are more easily sold as “reasonable.” Some call it, “being pecked to death by ducks.”

    And once they have your guns entered into a database, the next small bite is outlawing one type of gun after another, and then special gun taxes, special fees, gun insurance, mandatory “safety” instruction, requirements to join a club, etc. They’ll buy you off by “grandfathering” your guns, but then prevent you from passing them to your children. The idea is to make disarmament normal. They want the average citizen think that only the military, police or terrorists and criminals have guns. A normal person doesn’t need a gun and shouldn’t want one. If you want a gun, you must be dangerous …you need to be on a government list.

    My choice will be simple non-compliance. As Benjamin Franklin said, “we must indeed, all hang together or, most assuredly, we shall hang separately.” They can’t put millions of gun owners in jail. And if they try, then see the angry mobs show up. You think non-compliance can’t work? Ask the people that support sanctuary cities, or legalized marijuana. If the Left wants something they just go and do it, and then flip you off for good measure. Two can play that game.

  29. I’ve been reading the comments here, and I can just about hear the heart rates and blood pressure of people rising. Those on the other side of this argument would like nothing better than to see a firefight between federal or state enforcers and us. Imagine how that would play out on the evening news. Don’t play their game.

    We all know that there were only 3% of Americans who actually took up arms in our American Revolution, but they were supported by about 30% (I think) of the population. To change the way things are going on the gun issue, we need to have the public behind us. In the American Revolution, the British killed many Americans before we got to the Lexington Green and Concord Bridge moments. When the British did that, much of the public sentiment changed over to support the people who were willing to fight the British for our liberty. Without the support of the majority of Americans, we will lose this fight, whether it is in the legislature, the courts or the streets. Who would take in a guerrilla fighter unless he perceived that the fighter’s cause was a righteous one?

    We’re here where we are now because we failed. We failed to teach enough of those around us the value of gun ownership, and why it is necessary for every able bodied adult American to own and train with a rifle, preferably a battle rifle. In Switzerland, children start training with air rifles in elementary schools, and it isn’t long before they move on to .22 rifles. During their required military service, they learn to use the SIG550, a switch selectable assault rifle, and they are required to store it at home for that fateful day when it might be needed. The Swiss aren’t afraid of guns; they embrace them. And, by the way, they have almost no crime. In the US, if a schoolchild points his finger at another and says, “BANG”, he gets expelled from school, because they have a no tolerance policy for “gun violence”. Something is seriously wrong here.

    So, what’s the solution?

    Pray for our country. Always do that first.

    Teach, teach, teach everyone you know about guns. Take them to the range. There are many brainwashed individuals who will have their eyes opened. You won’t win them over by pointing out their ignorance. Remember, they vote.

    Write your elected officials if you think they will listen. I live in CT where my two federal senators are a shit sandwich and a douche bag. (I’m still not sure which one is which.) My federal representative was one of the co-sponsors of the House toddlers week long sit down temper tantrum to get rid of bad guns during Obama’s reign. For me, it’s useless to write to them. All I can do is try to change the minds of those that put these dingbats in office.

    Educate yourself with regard to our history, our Constitution and world history. Read, read, read on those cold winter nights. Be ready to explain to others why all of us need those guns. One of my favorite examples is to prevent genocide.

    Make emotional arguments that the other side can understand. When I am asked why anyone would need to own a gun, I don’t make a second amendment argument. I tell them so that people can protect themselves, their families and their neighbors from those who would try to murder or otherwise molest them. Who can argue with that?

    Ask yourself what you ultimately are willing to do if state or federal enforcers came to your home in the future to confiscate your firearms. Are you prepared to give your life for this cause? Have you made yourself right with God, so you can leave this world without worry? Ask yourself now, while you have time.

    Pray this day never comes to our land, but be prepared if it does.

    In the end, keep courage in your heart. Here in CT, we are already living behind enemy lines. Our legislature essentially passed Feinstein’s bill here in 2013 after the Sandy Hook massacre, but law enforcement officers refused to go door-to-door collecting unregistered “assault weapons” and magazines. If the CT law had required every legislator who voted for it to go first in the door on just one raid, they never would have passed the law. That is our greatest asset. As long as people are willing to fight for their God given and constitutionally protected rights, the only option the statists have left is force, and they haven’t played that card yet, because there are still too many of us armed for the outcome to be certain.

  33. Proff Wagstaff, theres been quite a few people build illegal weapons in backyard workshops, some are dangerous garbage, some appear from the pics in the media to be fairly well done. Most of these seem to be linked to the drug trade and the gangster scumbags who run that industry. Theres a fair bit of coin involved in illegal guns apparently, a legal glock is worth about 900-100 ozbux, an unregistered variant might be worth 5 or 6 grand, according to media reports. The police love to find these items, it gives them the opportunity to tell the gullible public how good the police are at keeping the gullible public safe. It helps convince the politicians to increase police budgets for ever cooler gear and powers to “keep people safe”.
    Theft of legal firearms from lawful owners is also an issue here, the scumbags steal stuff to sell to fund drug habits, and guns are worth good money in scumbag circles, so obviously legal owners are usually charged by police with “unsafe storage” in the event of a break-in. Its the responsiblity of gun owners to secure our stuff, wich is true, but its a lot easier to prosecute a law abiding gun owner than it is to catch and prosecute a theiving junkie. When the rare occaision a theiving junkie faces court, they are usually beaten with a wet lettuce leaf and given a short sentence, quite often suspended, due to their sad life experiences. Theres way to many laws, and almost no justice.

  34. A few observations. Retired after 30+ years from a SHERIFF’S OFFICE. The Sheriff’s I worked for were uniformly pro-gun, and would NOT be involved with enforcement of anti-gun laws enacted by the state. Police Chiefs? Whole different animal. Unlike Sheriff’s elected locally, they serve at the pleasure of mayors or city managers. That is why the Chiefs of Police Association comes up with so much anti-gun BS. They do what they are told. How about the Feds? Most Federal task forces have one Federal LE directing and are mainly staffed by local officers on loan. Incur the wrath of the Sheriff at least, and those task forces will suffer from a lack of personnel.
    Anyone ever try to look up the total number of DHS POLICE (Federally sworn,not a contract guard) there are in the US? Good luck, after 9/11 the assignment of persons to the umbrella of DHS camouflages their true numbers. Not that many IMHO.
    Where does that leave us? If there is a threat it would have to be state guard, or federal troops ordered to go door to door seizing property and or making arrests. There is no way even a small number of active resisters could be stopped without US military cooperation. Look how one domestic dispute or barricaded robber incident in your area has the SWAT team(s) often from multiple jurisdictions tied up for hours or days. Federal LE has even less assets in any given state.
    What would cause our military to do this? Perhaps JWR has some ideas on that. I do know I hear from many very smart, non reactionary people that we are heading towards a reset, and some say another civil war.
