JWR’s Recommendations of the Week:

Here are JWR’s Recommendations of the Week for various media and tools of interest to SurvivalBlog readers. The focus is usually on emergency communications gear, bug out bag gear, books and movies–often with a tie-in to disaster preparedness, and links to “how to” self-sufficiency videos. There are also links to sources for both storage food and storage containers. You will also note an emphasis on history books and historical movies. This week the focus is on MagPul PMAG AR magazines. (See the Gear & Grub section.)

“Bones” wrote to mention: 2Awarehouse.com has MagPul M2 PMAGs on sale for for $7.95 each. I should also mention that Palmetto State Armory (one of our affiliate advertisers) often has M2 PMAGs on sale at below $8.50 apiece, postage paid, and often bundles them with either gun cases or Federal ammunition, at very low prices. For just one example, type:  “SKU KIT-0293” into the Palmetto web site’s search box. I also recommend that you subscribe to their “Daily Deals” e-newsletter, but please use any SurvivalBlog link to Palmetto to start the ordering process, so that we’ll earn a commission. That will help pay for our servers. (Our various internet service, domain registration, and server bills total more than $600 per month.)

  1. Has there ever been a better time to stock up on weapons/magazines/ammunition/ parts/tools/food/clothing/equipment/medicine/skills? I submit that there has not.

One does not need to stare at the clock to realize that the time is late.
Get while the getting is good…true.
Get while the getting is possible…imperative.

If not us, who? If not now, when? Indeed!

  2. As great as the Old Yeller movie is, I recommend the book, too. It is a relatively short book. My sweetheart and I read a large portion of it to each other while visiting a local lake, and in the car on the way home.

    Carry on

  3. So, I just watched a different video from Garand Thumb. A comparison with a “military” (not really) M4 and a “gucci’ed” out AR-15. Interesting video, big problems. The two rifles were not actually comparable. Different gas systems, different hand guards, different sights, different barrel lengths, different. weight, just not comparable guns. I want someone to answer this question for me: If you were going into battle, would you prefer the select-fire M4 or the semi-auto AR-15? The video does show two things:
    1) maybe our front line soldiers should have the ability to customize their own firearms to make them better and more effective weapons, and
    2) train, train, and did I mention, train.
