U.S. murder rate approaches a record low [2]. JWR’s Comments: The statist/socialist NPR editors surely had to grit their teeth to report that news. These same anti-gun leftists at NPR warned us that there would be “blood in the streets” and “life like back in the wild west” when states began passing permitless concealed carry (aka Constitutional Carry) laws. There are now 26 states with permitless concealed carry. Gee, I wonder why murder rates are falling?

Speaking of National Pravda Radio: NPR Retracts Article Incorrectly Reporting Justice Alito’s Retirement, Citing ‘Misunderstanding’ [3]. JWR’s Comment: That fever dream of a news report came from 82-year old Nina Totenberg. If she has that level of confusion, then it is time for her to consider retirement.

Reader T.E. sent this video: We Got a WWII P-40 Warhawk to Fire Its Guns Again [6]JWR’s Comments:  One of my cousins (twice removed) was Colonel Wiiliam “Bill” Shuttles, of Highland Park, Texas (RIP). He was a WWII USAAF veteran and a serious gun collector. (He showed me his collection at his home, in 1978.)  Near the end of the war, he shipped home six large, long rectangular wooden crates from Germany. Those coffin-looking crates were full of war trophy guns packed in oily sawdust, quite securely banded shut, and stenciled: “Body, With Personal Effects”.  He registered all of the machineguns with the AFTD (the predecessor of the BATF) soon after he returned to Texas in 1946. Among the guns was a 20mm cannon MG 151/20 from a Messerschmitt Bf-109 and a 30mm Maschinenkanone MK 108 cannon from a Me-262. In the late 1960s, Bill donated those two cannons to the Confederate Air Force (CAF) — which was later re-named the Commemorative Air Force [7]. At the time, the BATF agents were a bit concerned that those live cannons might be mounted in a flight-worthy aircraft, so they insisted that the guns were “DEWATed” before the transfer to the CAF was completed.
