Reader Mary L. sent this: Virginia ‘Assault Firearm’ Sponsors Say Governor Wants Amendments to New Law [1]JWR’s Comments: Governor Spanberger [2] is a Big Government Democrat stalwart who is strongly anti-Second Amendment. This draconian law is scheduled to take effect on July 1st.  I hope that Virginians have already heavily stocked up on battle rifles and full capacity magazines. (The limit for newly-acquired magazines in Virginia will be 15 rounds.) The Tidewater  Gun Show in Virginia Beach last weekend must have been a frenzied scene, for magazine vendors. The Economist reports: The big business of survival bunkers — Another sign that prepping has gone mainstrea [10]m.  The brief article begins:

“The term “prepper” once carried a hint of derision, describing paranoid types who stockpiled supplies—and perhaps guns—in anticipation of society’s collapse. But in recent years—with climate change, covid-19 and political strife fuelling doomsday thinking—prepping has gone mainstream. Some 20m Americans, up from 10m in 2017, now fall into that category, reckons Chris Ellis, who researches disaster resilience. Videos on survival skills attract millions of views online. Americans are thought to spend billions of dollars a year preparing for emergencies. At the extreme end of the market sits the bunker business.”
