[11]“A while ago, I bought this Cold Steel and “SurvivalBlog”-marked knife, but I don’t know if it’s original. See the attached photo and please let me know if you can identify whether or not it is an original or a copy. Thanks.”
JWR Replies:
“The original Rawles XL Voyagers were all made with black Diamond-Like Coating (DLC) blades that were half-serrated, tanto profile, and chisel-cut. And the grip scales on the originals were all OD green. So that one is clearly a Chinese fake. But beware that some of the fakes have the correct colors and configuration. Other indicators of fakery can be found in the feel of the knife opening and closing, and a lack of quality in the general fitment. The copied boxes also have slightly blurred fonts and photos. The Mainland Chinese pirated copies are horrible. Some of them are so poorly fitted that the blade will not drop down squarely into the channel of the grip scales, when closing.
The knife was a limited edition. Genuine ones now typically sell for $200+ on eBay. If you see one selling on eBay for $40, it is probably a fake.”
