Gaming Fans Like The Last Of Us Television Series
The Last Of Us TV Series First Impression: Off To a Good Start [2]. JWR’s Comments: Though it is only slightly more believable than typical zombie-themed movies and television series, The Last Of Us, has its merits. I watched the pilot episode. Most of the imagery seems to have come from the video game, but some of it appears to borrow from survivalist fiction [3]. The production value of the show is fairly high for television, the special effects don’t seem cheesy, and the acting is above average. But be prepared for some obligatory Hollywood bows to the Woke crowd. I have read that there is a homosexual couple subplot in Episode 3.

‘The quantity of metal required to make just one generation of renewable tech units to replace fossil fuels is much larger than first thought. Current mining production of these metals is not even close to meeting demand. Current reported mineral reserves are also not enough in size. Most concerning is copper as one of the flagged shortfalls. Exploration for more at required volumes will be difficult, with this seminar addressing these issues.’ “

Texas is Increasingly Vulnerable to Cold Snaps
Two years after its historic deep freeze, Texas is increasingly vulnerable to cold snaps [9]. (Our thanks to reader C.B. for the link.) Here is a quote:
“An intense winter weather outbreak [10], informally dubbed Winter Storm Uri by the Weather Channel, swept across the U.S., bringing snow, sleet, freezing rain and frigid temperatures. Texas was hit especially hard, with all 254 counties under a winter storm warning at the same time.
Across the state, sustained arctic temperatures froze power plants and fuel supplies [11], while energy demand [12] for home heating climbed to all-time highs [13]. Cascading failures in the electric power [14] and natural gas sectors [15] left millions of people in the dark for days. At least 246 people died, possibly many more [16], and economic damage estimates damages reached US$130 billion [17].
Water systems, which require energy for pumping and treatment, also were severely damaged [18]. At least 10 million people [19] were under boil-water notices during and after the storm, sometimes for weeks. Low-income and minority residents, who had fewer resources to find alternative housing and make repairs, suffered the worst impacts [20].”
