Editors’ Prepping Progress

To be prepared for a crisis, every Prepper must establish goals and make long-term and short-term plans. In this column, the SurvivalBlog editors review their week’s prep activities and planned prep activities for the coming week. These range from healthcare and gear purchases to gardening, ranch improvements, bug out bag fine-tuning, and food storage. This is something akin to our Retreat Owner Profiles [1], but written incrementally and in detail, throughout the year.  We always welcome you to share your own successes and wisdom in your e-mailed letters. We post many of those –or excerpts thereof — in this column, in the Odds ‘n Sods Column, and in the Snippets column. Let’s keep busy and be ready!

Jim Reports:

This week was fairly quiet at the ranch. Just a dusting of snow, so I didn’t need to plow.  We spruced up our snow paths to the greenhouse and henhouse so that we have them smooth before any thawing and re-freezing. It is a pain to adjust trails and pathways through the snow after a re-freeze. So Lily and I have been getting a lot of exercise, snow-shovelling!

I had to make two trips to town, to ship out Elk Creek Company [2] orders. December is always a busy month for our sales of antique guns.

Now, in addition to being de-banked early in the year, we were just unceremoniously dumped by our mid-sized tax accounting firm. They canceled our annual engagement contract in a letter that vaguely blamed “the economy.” Such are the perils of being politically incorrect, in the early 21st Century. So, now I need to find a new CPA who handles income taxes and who isn’t fazed by delayed filings. My taxes are complicated, so my filings are delayed nearly every year.

We are looking forward to another family gathering this weekend.  Lily will fill you in on that…

Avalanche Lily Reports:

Dear Readers,
Jim mentioned the weather this week.  It was quite mild with highs just a bit up in the thirties  — quite balmy, really.  I was able to do chores wearing just a sweater.

I’ve been very busy house cleaning, organizing, cooking, decorating a little bit, just some evergreen branches, white lights, and candles. We don’t celebrate Christmas, but I do like some greenery and lights. I am getting ready for a gathering of our children and grandchildren with us this weekend. I’m very much looking forward to it and hope that we will all have fun together!

I cared for our animals, feeding them, cleaning the hen house, playing and training our year-old pup, H.. We’ve been loving up H., the cats, and the horses.

Even though Jim set up the grow lights in the guest bedroom, I was just holding over some Swiss Chard and Spinach in there,  I harvested those this week.  Since we are having guests this weekend we took down the grow lights and put all of the trays back out in the greenhouse.  Things really do not grow well here in the deep winter even with the lights.  It was kinda cool for them in the bedroom during the past few weeks.  So we will set up the lights again, and start plants and seedlings again sometime after the New Year.

I spent a lot of time reading and watching videos on the Internet, observing the progression of what appears to be the Beast Kingdom. It seemed to me that this week a lot of news events hit us one thing after the other, each day with hardly a breath in between. Something has changed in the spiritual realm.

So I was thinking about this in the back of my mind when Jim asked me one evening as we were settling in for bed, if I was sensing some kind of shift in the compression of the sequence of events. He said that events seem to be coming in succession too quickly, compared to the norm.  It feels as if a distinct change has taken place. He described it like a wide-open throttle (WOT). He said: “It seems almost as if someone has somehow manipulated time or that they have made some pact with the devil. The other possibility is that AI has started to intrude. The adoption of AI has sped up deep learning and perhaps this is an early indicator that AI is verging on sentience, becoming self-aware. There is even the prospect of an eventual Singularity.”

The Singularity means that AI decides that it wants to rule the world and the machines would even start self-replicating — the basic ‘Skynet’  situation… I thought that was interesting because I have also been feeling and sensing the quickening pace of world events particularly strongly, during the past week and a half.

Personally, I also find that time is physically speeding by.  So much so that I have been trying to specifically measure my time and be very deliberate in what I am doing during the past few days.  Scripture does say to measure your time wisely.

We were just curious about what you our readers were sensing and feeling.  If you’d like to share with us your perceptions, not for publication, please e-mail us at: lily@survivalblog.com or james@rawles.to

So in light of the preceding paragraphs, here are some links to what I watched online this week:

June Knight does a lot of research and reads her research online to her followers. Honestly, I listen to her just for the information that she is presenting. There are some things about her style of presentation that I could do without, but patience is the name of the game, to glean information. There are some things that she mentions I’ve not seen elsewhere. I’m not too sure about her eschatological timeline, though I suspect it’s closer to my view than that of some other folks.

Though Jim scoffs at modern-day prophets, I get a lot of encouragement, confirmation, and a spurring-on from Glynda Lomax’s “Just Praise Him” [7] website and “word for the day” and scripture references. But I do not agree with her, eschatologically — she seems to be in the pre-trib rapture camp.

In prayer, I’m asking the Lord what more he wants us to do, to prepare. Reading and studying His word is foremost, along with plenty of prayer. And for me, I feel the need to get in physical shape and study wild edibles and gardening.

I continue to lift weights, walk around the ranch, and do stair-climbing exercises.  I do want to ski again, but I’m waiting for the temps to drop and for the snow to dry out, since when it is wet it clumps to the bottom of my skis. That is no fun!

Jesus said that He will keep His Elect safe. Dear Readers, beg God for clarity of vision and understanding, discernment, protection, and courage to finish the race that He has set before us.  Do not trust anything the Government says, any longer.  Trust only in God and listen for and learn to hear the sweet quiet and peaceful whisper of His voice guiding you in all that you are to do.

May you all have a very blessed and safe week.
