This weekly column features news stories and event announcements from around the American Redoubt region. [1] (Idaho, Montana, eastern Oregon, eastern Washington, and Wyoming.) Much of the region is also more commonly known as The Inland Northwest. We also mention companies of interest to preppers and survivalists that are located in the American Redoubt region. Today, a special round-up of independently-owned retail businesses in the American Redoubt. These stores are great alternatives to the larger chain and “Big Box” stores.
Idaho
Hutton’s General Store [2], Harrison. A local landmark.

Falls General Store [3], Saint Anthony. A combination drug store and hardware store.

The Gathering Place [4] is an Amish store and deli, just north of the Three Mile junction, near Bonners Ferry, Idaho.

Bellevue General Store [5]. A log furniture store that morphed into a general store.

Olive’s Auto Parts & More [6], Orofino. A traditional auto parts store that branched out into selling chainsaws, guns, gun parts, ammo, and reloading supplies.

Elk City General Store [7], Elk City.
Montana
The Sweet Palace [8]. Philipsburg. An amazing old-fashioned candy store.

Cooke City Store [9], in Cooke City.

Amish Farm To Market [10] is a recently expanded and prospering Amish store and deli. They are located near the Libby airport, outside of Libby, Montana.

Polebridge Mercantile & Bakery [11], Polebridge. Way out a gravel road, near Glacier National Park.

Grocery Surplus [12] is a traditional Amish store and deli, just east of Thompon Falls.
Central & Eastern Oregon
M. Crow & Co. [13] A general store and brewery. They’ve been in operation in Lostine since 1906. Great pizza, too!

Eastern Oregon Mercantile [14] in Union.

Pendleton Woolen Mills [15]. A family-owned business for 150 years, and for 104 of those years they’ve been weaving woolen blankets and other items. They also have a big retail store in Portland, for the wet-siders.

Central & Eastern Washington
Onion Creek General Store [17], Colville.

The General Store, Spokane [18]. They are at 2424 North Division Street, which is Spokane’s “main drag.”

Peters Hardware [19], Spokane Valley. Established in 1934, and still independent.
Wyoming
Welty’s General Store [20], Dubois. A local landmark.
