SurvivalBlog’s News From The American Redoubt

This weekly column features news stories and event announcements from around the American Redoubt region. [1] (Idaho, Montana, eastern Oregon, eastern Washington, and Wyoming.) Much of the region is also more commonly known as The Inland Northwest. We also mention companies of interest to preppers and survivalists that are located in the American Redoubt region. Today, nows on the arrest of two alleged wolf poachers.  (See the Montana section.)

Idaho

Over at Redoubt News, there is this piece written by Shari Dovale that includes some details that I’ve not yet seen verified: Idaho Swamp Trying To Unseat Another Conservative [2].

I just heard about a Photovoltaic power systems sales and installation company that has opened a new storefront just north of Bonners Ferry, Idaho: Smith Lake Solar Electric [3]. They cater to putting together systems for do-it-yourselfers and seem to have very competitive prices. For example: $225 for an all-weather 275-Watt polycrystalline PV panel–and presumably even lower prices per panel for large installations. They are located at 510007 Highway 95. (Directly across from the Yoder’s Amish store. ) You can call them at (208) 946-6007 or e-mail them at: slsolarelectric@gmail.com [4].

Montana

Blog reader C,B, sent this: Montana governor signs bill to protect Second Amendment from federal gun restrictions [7]. JWR’s Comment: Other states need to get on board with both the Second Amendment Sanctuary movement [8] and the Compact of States [9]. Please contact your state legislators and urge them to follow the lead of states like Idaho, Wyoming, and Montana!

Two wolves poached by helicopter in the Big Hole Valley; citations issued [11]. The article’s opening paragraphs:

“Two men each illegally shot a gray wolf on private property from a helicopter in the Big Hole Valley near Wisdom in March.

The incident comes at a time when the state is grappling with controversy over wolf management. Gov. Greg Gianforte made national headlines in February by trapping and killing a wolf, and the Legislature has since passed several bills designed to increase the legal killing of the predators in the state, dramatically changing an enforcement system that some wildlife experts had seen as effectively balancing competing interests.

Dalton Thomas Tamcke, 30, and Justin Samuel Peterson, 22, did not possess wolf tags, nor did they have landowner permission to hunt on the property, the Mark Clemow Ranch, on March 3. Hunting wolves from a helicopter is illegal as well.

The two men claimed to be hunting coyotes for control action and that they mistook the wolves for coyotes. They later retrieved the carcasses on a snowmobile.”

JWR’s Comment: Apparently, they never heard the Three S Rule: “Shoot, Shovel, and Shut-Up.”

Wyoming

Gun-Haters Freak Out Over Roofing Company’s Rifle Giveaway [18]. An excerpt:

“A Wyoming roofing company says it’s received “hateful, vulgar comments” over its latest promotion, which offers a free AR-15 rifle with the purchase of any new roof. Wiggins Construction, located in Powell, Wyoming, decided to launch the promotion to target the influx of new residents who are fleeing big cities and Democrat-controlled strongholds for a better life in Big Sky Country, but Matt Thomas, who does marketing for the company, says anti-gun extremists from coast-to-coast have been flooding the company with complaints [19].”

JWR’s Comment: Somehow this fits with the old saying:  “Vote from the rooftops.” Hearing that would surely give the haters apoplexy.
