To be prepared for a crisis, every Prepper must establish goals and make long-term and short-term plans. In this column, the SurvivalBlog editors review their week’s prep activities and planned prep activities for the coming week. These range from healthcare and gear purchases to gardening, ranch improvements, bug out bag fine-tuning, and food storage. This is something akin to our Retreat Owner Profiles [1], but written incrementally and in detail, throughout the year. Jim Reports:
I’ve had another quiet week here, out of state, helping an ailing elderly relative. I’m anxiously counting down the days until my return to Lily and the kids at the ranch.
As usual, I’ve had the ordering system for Elk Creek Company [2] on hiatus for this month of travel. Judging from the large number of inquiries and “hold that one for me” e-mails that I’ve received, I can see that we’ll have a big rush of orders, when I reactivate the shopping cart system next Tuesday. (March 30, 2021.) So be sure to mark your calendar! I’m fairly certain that with the big anti-gun legislative push in congress that the demand for Federally-exempt pre-1899 guns will be huge, in the coming months. This may be your last chance to have a good selection of pre-1899 guns at reasonable prices. Once again: H.R. 8 will ban all private party gun transfers EXCEPT for muzzleloaders, percussion revolvers, and pre-1899 cartridge guns. Please contact your senators again, and tell them that you oppose all Federal gun laws.
While I’ve been traveling, Lily has been working on a “Honey Do” list for me. Apparently, building a new shed roof to go over our intended new beehives and remodeling the chicken coop are the items at the top of that list.

Dear Readers,
This week we had a mix bag for weather: rain and snow showers and some sun.
Yes, I do have a growing Honey Do List for Jim when he returns home. We need to shore up the fencing of the Shed garden and Main garden. We do need to revamp the hen house, and many other projects. But at this time, more than having Jim’s help on projects, I just want him home again…This is a difficult season for all of us involved with relative’s care and for her in experiencing her own decline in health, very sad and difficult days indeed.
This coming weekend is Passover. Our small Bible study group will celebrate the Passover here at the ranch. We’re looking very forward to it. Jim will join us via Wire.
This week I have spent a lot of time preparing the house for our guests, lots of cleaning and food preparation.
We have updated our flock of birds, choosing another breed, of which, Miss Violet will be the chief caretaker. She bought a few dozen chicks, that she is raising. In the past, I was very interested in being the sole caretaker of most of our flocks and herds, but now, I’m ready to hand over the responsibility to the younger generation…
Our neighbor came over with his small tractor and scraped cow manure out of the loafing area and corrals for me and deposited it into our various gardens and a section of our south meadow that was overtaken by knapweed. I spread that manure, and will soon seed it with pasture grasses. While neighbor was hauling manure, Miss Eloise and I, cleaned out the barn stalls, spread manure in one of the gardens, and cleaned up areas that the tractor couldn’t reach.
Seeds of the greens, cabbages, broccoli, onions, leeks, etc. that I planted last week in the Indoor Greenhouse and Outdoor Greenhouse, are sprouting. Exciting!
The snow is almost completely gone from my Red Raspberry bed which is in a very sheltered area compared to the location of the rest of the raspberry beds. I spent time surveying the winter snow damage and culling out the broken canes and the few of last year’s spent canes that I had not completely finished removing last fall.
I am slowly getting all of the fruit trees in the orchard manured.
I have finished listening to the last set of books in the New Testament this week: the books of Colossians, First and Second Thessalonians, First and Second Timothy, Titus, Philemon, Hebrews, James, First and Second Peter, First, Second and Third John and Revelation. Later in the week, I listened to First John two more times. I needed to hear it over and over again this week. 😉
I plan to listen to the New Testament again in the Hebrew language while following along reading it in English for this next period of study…
One more thing: Jim sent me this link last night and I watched it. Please listen to this Catherine Austin FItts interview [3]! The window is closing, but if we wake everybody up… Send this to everyone that you know! Fitts ties together many things that we’ve been trying to warn you all of, in a very concise package. Do not ever give up your guns. Never! The powers that be/the very few elite are pure evil and tyrannical. They do not have our best interests at heart. They want you dead or enslaved! God help us. Do not take that vaccine! I cannot emphasize this enough.
Do not ever deny Jesus Christ as your savior. Trust in Him with all your heart mind and soul. He will care and provide for your every need!
