The Survivalist’s Odds ‘n Sods

SurvivalBlog presents another edition of The Survivalist’s Odds ‘n Sods— a collection of news bits and pieces that are relevant to the modern survivalist and prepper from “JWR [1]”. Our goal is to educate our readers, to help them to recognize emerging threats, and to be better prepared for both disasters and negative societal trends. You can’t mitigate a risk if you haven’t first identified a risk. Today, we’ll start with an article about the oxygen shortages at hospitals.

Oxygen Scarcity Swells Covid-19’s Death Toll

To file under “I told you so”: Oxygen Scarcity Swells Covid-19’s Death Toll [2]. JWR’s Comments: I stand by my advice from March, 2020 for SurvivaBlog-reading families: Find a used oxygen concentrator [3]. The next coronavirus (COVID-21, or whatever) may put many millions of acute patients on oxygen therapy.

C19 Diagnostic Criteria Tightened by WHO

Reader H.L. sent us this: TOTAL COINCIDENCE ALERT: C19 Diagnostic Criteria Tightened by WHO on Biden Inauguration Day! [9]

Here is a quote:

“A single positive PCR test for the virus isn’t going to cut it anymore.

For some reason, as of today, the organization decided that those tests for the virus we’ve been relentlessly assured are the gold standard [10] for detecting infection are, in reality, just a mere “aid for diagnosis.”

Clinicians now, not only can, but “must” also consider a wide array of other factors, like “timing of sampling, specimen type, assay specifics, clinical observations, patient history, confirmed status of any contacts,” and even something called “epidemiological information”—whatever that exactly is—before diagnosing anyone with COVID-19.

WHO has also suddenly decided that, if you don’t show any symptoms, you’ll need to get a second test for confirmation as well.”

DIA Monitored U.S. Cellphone Movements Without Warrant

SurvivalBlog reader C.B. sent us this, from The Wall Street Journal: Military Intelligence Agency Says It Monitored U.S. Cellphone Movements Without Warrant [11]

The Curious NRA Bankruptcy

Reader Eric S. spotted this: NRA Bankruptcy.  [12]A snippet:

“There are already so many glaring issues (or should I say “targets”?): venue, good faith filing, disclosures, the automatic stay the trustee question, fiduciary duties to pursue claims against insiders, executory employment contracts, the fate of Wayne LaPierre, and the generally overlooked governance provisions of the Bankruptcy Code.”

New Interest in Gun-Detection AI

Over at left-of-center Fast Company: The Capitol riot is spurring new interest in gun-detection AI [13]. (Thanks to Peter, for the link.)

Slouching Toward Post-Journalism

And lastly, H.L. sent us this thought-provoking piece: Slouching Toward Post-Journalism [14]. JWR’s Comment: The pretense of “objective reporting” is gone. At least some of these “journalists” have the intellectual honesty to admit that they are fully-biased propagandists.

You can send your news tips to JWR [1]. (Either via e-mail of via our Contact [15] form.) Thanks!

On the NRA Bankruptcy story…interestingly enough, USA_today posted an article about this story as well. As you might imagine, it reads differently than the article posted here. Either way, best of luck to the NRA during what is sure to be a difficult time.

All I can say is good luck NRA and up yours New York. New York has been abusing people and businesses for far to long and with all the revenue sources that are leaving they are grasping at any thing they can tax. And of course this is about their anti gun stance.

All those people that joined that group, and it was a trap the whole time…

#6 Comment By Don Williams On January 28, 2021 @ 3:33 pm

Not necessarily. The News Media is loudly proclaiming that the FBI coerced Enrique into being a snitch years ago as a way to undermine his political efforts today.

One thing the IRA, CIA and other groups learned through the years is that you can either be a political movement or you can be an underground insurgency but you can’t be both at the same time. Or at least you need to keep the two totally separated with strong security measures for any cross-communication/coordination.

The insurgency undermines the reputation of the political movement and the political movement leaks/open discussion undermine the secrecy of the covert insurgency.

Reason why I argued almost a year ago that people should be making arguments and appeals to rank and file Democrats to discard Democratic leaders rather than engaging in ineffective gun-waving. By pointing out to the average Democrat how their leaders have been stabbing their supporters in the back for years on behalf of billionaire campaign donors.

Careful about reading the Guardian, it is just a supermarket tabloid like the former Inquirer and the Star. Good for fish wrapping and little else. I believe it is owned by Rupert Murdock

#8 Comment By Allan On January 29, 2021 @ 1:38 am

The Guardian is not owned by Rupert Murdoch.it is a UK based newspaper which is a charitable trust
Despite its links to slavery it is left of centre liberal politically and best ignored

Conspiracy laws are designed to enhance the punishment of people who break the law. But they are used to imprison people who talk about activism and then act out even legally. You are a fool to join a group. AND the groups I have seen acting out are foolish and their actions counter productive. Direct confrontation is not the answer. It may feel like you are fighting the good fight but you are merely converting people to the side of your enemy.

“Slouching Toward Post-Journalism.” Excellent article.

Probably the most corrupted word in the English language being used today is “racist.” In 90%+ of the cases where the word is used the word should be “racial” not “racist.” The sole purpose of this wrong word usage is to vilify one group and to divide and polarize the population.

Most dictionaries still have the actual definition such as #1 below, others have variations of it that are close but not 100% accurate as in #2 below. But the problem isn’t dictionary definitions, rather common usage, which is almost always incorrect.

Racist:
1. A person who believes a particular race is superior to others.

2. The belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others.

The key word in the definition is “superior.” #2 is partially incorrect because there are some abilities that are race based, such as IQ, athletic ability and vitamin D production. If I point out that Asians as a group have higher IQ’s than other races, most would not consider that a racist comment. If I say Hispanics have lower IQ’s than Asians, now they tell me I’m a racist when in fact it’s just a racial comment based on facts. If I say blacks are superior in basketball than Whites because they have a higher ratio of fast-twitch to slow-twitch muscle fibers, I’m not a racist. If I say Blacks are not as good at marathon running as Whites (for the same muscle reason), now I’m a racist. Both comments are racial comments based on science, not racist comments. Just because one race is superior in one attribute, does not mean they are inferior as a race.

Basically they’ve corrupted the word so that anything negative said about non-Whites they call a racist comment in order to vilify one race and divide the people, most of whom don’t know the difference or how to use a dictionary. Next time you see “racist” in print, test it to see if it’s a comment about a race’s inferiority, or just a comment that involves race.

#11 Comment By Don Williams On January 28, 2021 @ 3:45 pm

Oh, it goes beyond that.

The very people who dump prolonged unemployment and poverty onto black Americans — by bringing in cheap foreign labor to take US jobs out of a RACIST allegiance to a foreign ethnic group — are the ones who justify their backstabbing with the claim that critics are racist. If UnidosUS is not racist I would like to know what is.

[17]
[18]

Although strictly speaking UnidosUS’s Democrat billionaire financiers are not racist — they are happy to screw everybody if it will make them richer. To be racist you have to have loyalty to something other than yourself. In the course of attacking Trump over immigration, news anchor Jorge Ramos never mentioned that his billionaire owner had promoted an unnecessary war in Iraq that stacked up the bodies of Hispanic American soldiers like firewood.

#12 Comment By St. Funogas On January 28, 2021 @ 8:29 pm

Hey Don, good points. And I’ve always wondered how much the rise of the welfare state under Johnson was planned with the ulterior motive of keeping people on a revamped plantation, or create more Democratic voters, and how much was honestly trying to help but had lots of unintended consequences. I have a real hard time thinking of Johnson (or any other politician) as a nice guy in any regard so it’s always made me wonder.

#13 Comment By Don Williams On January 29, 2021 @ 3:30 pm

All those Confederate leaders whose statues are being pulled down by Democratic “activists” were Democrats. In case you were wondering why present day Democratic billionaires want to destroy history.

The only reason Big Steel and Big Railroad Northern plutocrats promoted the Civil War was so that they could steal the massive Pocahontas coal deposits of western Virginia away from Virginia — setting up a separate state expressly contrary to the sainted Constitution the North was allegedly defending.
(see Article IV, Section 3)

The company town feudalism they established in Appalachia was slavery similar to what was on the Southern Plantations. Black Americans were discarded as soon as they no longer had propaganda value.

Slavery was an evil system and deserved to be destroyed — but could have been removed with federal conpensation for less than the cost of the Civil War. Lincoln did not so much free the slaves as he enslaved everyone else — making us subject to a pack of unaccountable Rich Men’s prostitutes in distant Washington.

#14 Comment By oly On January 28, 2021 @ 6:32 pm

It is interesting to note that in Noah Webster’s 1828 edition of the American Dictionary Of The English Language the terms “racist, racism” do not appear. Noah does address “slave, slavery, slave trade” at length. He does state that: ” Slavery no longer exists in Great Britain, nor in the northern states of America”. One wonders why the term “Racist” is such a constant refrain of a particular modern political party when the issue of slavery in America was dealt with at great cost so long ago. It is a concocted political ploy to divide voting groups for political hierarchies, obviously. The modern employment of slavery is more so the issue of debt (monetary) to corporations and debt for favors of vote to a particular political structure.

#15 Comment By Charles K. On January 29, 2021 @ 1:58 am

” Slavery no longer exists in Great Britain, nor in the northern states of America”

I find that interesting, as slavery didn’t end in the British Empire until 1833, and there were slaves in many Northern US states until the second 13th amendment passed in 1866. The first 13th amendment was the Corwin Amendment, an amendment that had the blessings of the dictator Lincoln.

#16 Comment By oly On January 30, 2021 @ 5:54 pm

Charles K, “Slavery no longer exists GB, nor in the Northern States of America.”
Charles K, Obviously Mr. Webster meant “slavery no longer exists” as a matter of state policy and very wide spread accepted practice.
It is the same thing as saying presently that there is no rioting, looting, burning of businesses in America today but just “peaceful protests” by the left as viewed 200 years in the future by reading media accounts of the day. But only insurrection, sedition, illegal rioting by the right inspired by false accusations of fraud in the 2020 presidential election in all of the same major cities where said fraud happened incited by the Russian colluding twice impeached mean President Trump as reported by the media.

There is very little need for oxygen therapy now that we know that 1 or 2 doses of ivermectin will cure over 90% of Covid infections in 48 hours. Almost all the hospitalizations and deaths since June are due to politics, malpractice and evil will.

Ray K: Very interesting and accurate comment. I’ve been what you might say beating the
drum for oral Ivermectin use for several months but most response have been along the
line of “well heck we’ll just run down to the farm and ranch store and buy us some of that
cream or injectable Ivermectin stuff that they use on cows and horses, it outta work shouldn’t it”?

It is really surprising and disturbing that that many of elitist preparedness sites and blogs
choose not to inform their followers with information on the life saving potential of using
oral Ivermectin to fight the COVID disease.

If you don’t believe the recommendations of Dr.Chris Martenson,Dr.Pierre Kory and his
colleagues at FLCCC or the doctors and scientists at Eastern Virginia University School of Medicine that developed the COVID Care Protocol then all I can say is good luck. You’ll need it.

I would say that an O2 concentrator would be essential to the “long haulers” that may have
extended side effects from the Covid

Even the Wall Street Journal is now stooping to false click-bait headlines.

Hello to all of those that gather here for their early morning coffee break, as well as sending my thanks to all that participate on this outstanding site created by our friend James Wesley, Rawles.

Fairly recently a blogger on this site that was known by the letters GGHD responded to a an excellent blog comment by St. Funogas on January 9, 2021. GGHD presented a three part series that were to show how Pence was really working for Trumps undoing.
Unfortunately, those sites did not appear other than the numbers 1, 2, and 3.
Here is what GGHD wrote:
—————————————————————–
“Pence was also involved with a scheme to oust Trump sometime during his first four years that was orchestrated by Rod Rosenstein and supported by the Clintons. The plan: get rid of Trump, become president and then appoint Rod Rosenstein as the new VP. Why would they want that? Because they felt Pence could be controlled. See these links for the 3 part series for more information:”
Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
————————————————————————
I would like to see that three part series. If you are still out there and read this please post the sites that went with Part 1, 2, and 3. We all need to see those three parts.

My Thanks to all!!!! Hiram

1) You forgot – the biggest issue with Obamacare in 2009 was how much money Big Pharma lobbyist Bill Tauzin would pass under the table to the PR firm of Obama’s “Senior Advisor” David Axelrod:

[22]

[23]

2) A related question — how much Big Pharma would spend on propaganda praising Obamacare in exchange for being allowed to gouge Americans on drug prices.

#27 Comment By Telesilla of Argos On January 28, 2021 @ 8:35 pm

I can never forget Obamacare… The “Affordable Care Act” ultimately cost my family our insurance policy when privately held policies were tossed into the exchange — a part of the law which took effect AFTER Obama left office. Instead, we were directed to the exchange which was entirely unaffordable by orders of magnitude. We have been without health insurance ever since. We can’t even get a major medical policy.

Anyone who thinks Obamacare was (or remains) a good idea, lacks an understanding of what this law did to millions of Americans, is a complete idiot, or is complicit.

RE: Bill Whittle Terms of Service — Analysis: [24]
“In this video, he discusses how, at least in an enjoyable mental exercise, it would be satisfying, entertaining, and educational (to Leftists) if we were to turn the tables on them, and in a legal-ese ju-jitsu, legally use their tyrannical “Terms of Agreement” against them.

In other words, using a fig leaf of legality (the way they have to de-platform people they disagree with) called “Terms of Service” that people would have to sign before we render services to them.

I have no idea if it would even be valid, but…it is not only an interesting and fun exercise, how would it be any different than what FaceBook, Google, YouTube, and Twitter have done?

I am interested in hearing what people think of the concept. ”

Regarding relocation properties – Tonasket WA – absolutely beautiful country living, orchards all around, fantastic climate, Long growing season, close enough to larger centre and big city but so far removed most in city have no idea where it is. And an added bonus is that winters are really not so difficult, chilly but not damp cold. We live about half hour away on the Canadian side of the border…up until last year we would drive those roads every month or so as Omak was closer for shopping. It’s a very serene place.

The Gateway Pundit is reporting…

“After 440,000 Americans are Dead – Facebook and American Journal of Medicine Admit Their Stand on HCQ was Wrong — These People Should be Prosecuted!”

[25]

Note: I always encourage close review of the actual data. Go to the source, understand the information, draw your own conclusions. Having said that… If this short summary is accurate, much suffering may have been averted, and many lives may have been spared. It is my opinion that those who worked so tirelessly to prevent the use of HCQ in the treatment of the novel coronavirus, and to punish the doctors who believed in it, should be investigated thoroughly, and held accountable in so far as their actions violated either professional codes of conduct or criminal law. Let no one ever forget the hundreds of thousands of Americans (and millions around the world) who lost their lives to COVID-19.

#34 Comment By greg On January 29, 2021 @ 5:27 am

I read the journal article quoted in the Gateway pundit. It used the term “may” so the authors didn’t think they had proof. The authors even admitted that the good studies take time and weren’t done. The NIH tried to run a trial and not enough people signed up so it was closed. In the absence of good studies they presented a best guess based on less rigorous studies. Doctors and patients need some sort of game plan even if it isn’t totally correct or the best plan, and they hope better studies will come be finished and provide a solid basis for a clinical treatment plan. Read the actual article in the journal published in Aug 20, link at end. This article won’t get any doctor in trouble.

Next I did some google searching to see if I could find something more recent. It’s been four+ months, maybe new studies have come out that provided more definitive, gold standard evidence either one way or the other. My searches were disappointing. Most of the hits were for older studies or for other less rigorous studies that were subject to bias or other problems that diminish the validity of their results.

Last thoughts. My father was a doctor. Back in the 1970’s he talked with me about the difficulties of sorting through medical information, medical articles and even journal articles. It’s tough for doctors to sort out, for example a doctor or a patient who knows what medication is being taken can actually affect the outcome of the study and the measured effectiveness of the drug. Not all studies are equal.
