Preparedness Notes for Thursday — January 14, 2021

On January 14th, 1784, the Continental Congress ratified the Second Treaty of Paris, ending the War for Independence. In the document, which was known as the Second Treaty of Paris because the Treaty of Paris was also the name of the agreement that had ended the Seven Years’ War in 1763, Britain officially agreed to recognize the independence of its 13 former colonies as the new United States of America.

Because of a huge windstorm in the Inland Northwest, our local ISP went down on Wednesday.  I had to drive almost 50 miles to get an Internet connection to put up today’s posts. Our connectivity may be spotty for the next few days. So you may see some regular posts are missing or going up late. My apologies!  – JWR

  1. Attention hard core radio nuts. This is for you.

I have personally used 75ohm RG6 and RG59 cable tv coaxial cable as a substitute for 50ohm cable for VHF/UHF antennas and achieved SWR’s similar to RG58 across a typical band width by following instructions similar to this video. Note the velocity factor is about the same in both types of coaxial cable. They are close enough. To make spacers for homemade ladder line, I recommend pex pipe drilled cross wise on either end for a snug fit. Of course I also have a tuner to compensate.

This fellow goes even further and demonstrates how relatively crude homemade feed line can be made using the same calculations with twisted pairs from CAT5 cable, or common electrical wire. In a protracted struggle, attrition would be a serious problem. It’s good to have contingency available.

  2. Another excellent field expedient antenna build video. I complete agree with this fellow’s mindset. Yes, we can build some better quality antenna’s, yet field expedient build options can save the day when the going get’s toughest, and weighs nothing to carry in the brain. We can make antennas out of galvanized water pipe, to wood stove pipe, and just about anything. In fact, an antenna out of stove pipe makes for an extremely flat SWR curve. Even if the length of 6 inch stove pipe is only eye ball approximate, it would likely give us a usable SWR. It would also be a very stealth antenna.

      1. I could may a very useful and stealthy VHF antenna out of a coil of chicken wire, and old lamp zip cord. As a poor hick in the sticks, one if forced to improvise. As the country will be impoverished, access to materials will be reduced. It is good to think outside the box. Fortunately I grew up doing this sort of thing. A couple of decades ago, we were in a pinch with a dead battery. I was able to jump start the car with a single piece of coat hanger wire. We can never tell when we might need to Mc Gyver something up. In WW2, farm boys retrofitted the old Jeep to do many task’s with old fashion farmer know how. Sure, we can stock pile up tons of great stuff, but it may not be with you when you need it most.

      2. Another reason to use very large diameter pipe, or chicken, or other type wire rolled up, is to make the band width extremely wide to compensate for the mismatched impedance between the improvised feed line, the radio, and unusual antenna. We can also greatly expand the bandwidth by using two vertical wire antennas spaced close together. One would be fed power, the other not, but it will resonate sympathetically.
This technique is used on OWA (Optimized Wideband Antenna) yagis. There is already started, a gurellia war in the cities. Super stealthy antennas could be needed there. Also, Lidar can see through trees making auxiliary guerrilla camps in the woods visible. It may be necessary to hide in plain sight in smaller towns and cities.

        1. It’s an old Indian trick to used to intimidate the enemy. Size and placement matters. The larger the skat, the larger and stronger the animal. Feed your biggest brave a big meal, and let him go to work.

    1. Bwaaaahhhhaaaaahhhhhaaaaaa, that’s funny right there, I don’t care who ya arrr….. But where any gummint is concerned it is never out of the realm of possibility, and the more ridiculus it seems, the more likely it is gummint would do it. As they have proven and well documented during the last year. As was said among USMC (Uncle Sams Misguided Children) If it moves – salute it, if it doesn’t move – paint it, if you don’t understand it – kill it…….. Same principle applies to all areas of gummint……..

      1. Thanks for the laugh. I’m just really stressed. It’s hard. People I speak to are oblivious. I’m just like, I’m trying to help you! You’re headed for a cliff !

  3. Australia’s biggest security risks are like ours (and Canada’s) they were born in China or they work for China. But the desire for that money that the Chinese hand out is strong. Our politicians sell themselves cheap but in reality it is you the American citizen being sold.

  4. An extraordinary theory claims Biden will be arrested and America saved.

    Mike Adams

An extraordinary theory is now emerging that claims a combination of FEMA and the US military will save the nation, arrest Biden and the traitors, and restore our constitutional republic.

This action should begin to occur on January 19th and carry through the 20th, its advocates say.

But many patriot skeptics think it’s all a manipulative psyop and more “Q” disinfo to lead patriots right into a trap.

In today’s feature story and podcast, I cover the moving pieces of all this, including Trump’s emergency declaration, FEMA activation, the head of FEMA being a US Marine, the Chris Miller DoD maneuver and what we might expect in the week ahead.

  5. Thrift Store Score!

Keep checking the thrift stores. Went to town this month to sell eggs, and turned some of the egg money in to SSB CB, and 100 feet of new 75 ohm coaxial cable. I can get on the air for only for only $8.50!

I’ve been collecting old CB’s to hand out to select neighbors for a low power net. Because this a rare find, a CB with SSB (Single Side Band), it is a keeper. However, in my experience, only about half the old CB’s I run into actually work. The ‘dust of ages’ can sometimes be blown out, and corrosion removed with a spray. This one would be worth that kind of attention and work. Regardless, the price was right, and the P.A. (Public Address) part of the CB may still work. Use one or two CB’s with P.A.’s, and you’ve got a one way, or two way intercom-telephone system. Crude, but effective for shorter distances. The audio can be amplified with a 12vdc computer speaker amplifier if need be.

Even if only the P.A. works, if some ones show up at the front gate, we can now ask them to leave, politely, without revealing the location of the O.P. (Observation Post). If all we had was a hammer, then everything would look like a nail. It would be good to have the means to escalate the force needed to dissuade an enemy threat, and avoid the use of a hammer. A bull horn would giveaway your location. There is more than one way communicate, or to skin me (a rabbit).

  6. I promised Krissy I’d put a thought out on Martial Law, as she is taking current events seriously like most of us.

First, as is happening now, Governors are using National Guard as security grunts. This costs a lot of money, and the Governors of course demand funds from the feds practically daily.

This uniformed security is not formal Martial law, which if fully, truly enacted would have military courts staffed by actual military judges and rules for determining case outcome, and most likely military internment rather than state prisons. Note there are TWO prisons at Leavenworth, Kansas. One is a Federal penitentiary, the other is a Military prison. They are several miles apart.

If you paid attention to Guantanamo processes, you see the difference. As the old saying goes, “Don’t make a federal case out of it”, because federal judges pretty much do their own thing and military judges even more so, partly because military rules are much more weighted to the military processes rather than towards victimless determinations, depending upon what military thinks are hot issues( sexual assault, sadly, is really a low priority I am unhappy to say).

Of course, military courts put higher priority prosecuting on people using guns.

So I don’t see a threat of martial law being declared because Governors want to keep and in fact increase their power and control over us by using their Supreme Court members, who have been hand picked in blue states to bend and ignore any laws the Governor and his Attorney General want them to ignore, while pursuing us with the laws the Gov and AG want to hammer us with.

Case in point, WA governor ignoring drug trafficking and human trafficking while issuing $10K fines for not masking to tiny businesses who cannot afford attorneys, while keeping the woman, who let Nigerian scammers steal $650,000,000 of WA state unemployment money, in as head of Employment Security.

I say, don’t worry about the fact of martial law, but do be ready for administrations to attack you financially in many ways. Money is power to them and you have what they want.

I can see them fining gun and magazine owners, and taking cars and homes away for non-compliance, and that could include them using National Guard to do it. With state courts and state and local LEO being instructed by State AG ( WA State AG office has more than 1,100 employees) and local county Prosecutors.

This isn’t how we want to live, but it’s what I think the real threat is: using selectively enforced laws to take our assets. Gun fights with government only end up with their side winning, so I have ruled them out of my survival plan. As JWR states the obvious, incarceration is usually a very poor survival strategy.

God Loves You, Krissy. Thanks for being.
Sorry this was so late today but I’ve been doing elder care 2 days now.

    1. Wheatley Fisher, I just now saw this. Sweet! Thank you so much for the explanations, and for taking time out of your busy schedule, as well. I learned much and feel better too.
Asking God to bless the elders you care for.
