Preparedness Notes for Sunday — July 26, 2020

On July 26th, 1931, a swarm of grasshoppers [1] descended on crops throughout the American heartland, devastating millions of acres. Already in the midst of a bad drought, Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota suffered tremendously. The swarms was said to be so thick that it blocked out the sun and one could shovel the grasshoppers with a scoop. While America has not seen infestations on such a scale since then, North Africa and parts of the Middle East continue to experience them.

Please pray for the folks in Texas who are in the path of Hurricane Hanna [2].

Hope all of you in Texas are doing ok. I think this is a prime example though of how several different things can all converge at once. So we have Covid-19 which is having a time of it in Texas, the economic issues, the BLM and Antifa “protests”, the upcoming election and now a hurricane. It’s sure hard to plan when everything is a moving target! I’m grateful for how quiet it’s mostly been up here in the far rural north but I know that can change at any time.

Having a bumper year for grasshoppers in WY. Yay. Non-pesticide interventions are a dismal failure, as are my lawn and garden.
