Preparedness Notes for Friday — January 31, 2020

Congratulations to the Citizens of the UK! Brexit will take effect at midnight tonight [1]. It was originally scheduled for March of 2019. But there were, ahem, delays. I’m glad to see that you are finally getting out of Burger King [2]. Next up: How and when do you get your guns back?

And, speaking of England: On January 31, 1606, Guy Fawkes was scheduled for execution for his part in the Gunpowder Plot against parliament and King James. As he was being marched up the steps to his gallows, he fell and broke his neck and died, thus depriving his executioners of any satisfaction. In recent years, Guy Fawkes masks [3] have become a symbol of resistance to big government, worldwide.

Also on this day in 1872, American author Pearl Zane Grey was born. He was best know for his popular adventure western novels, including Riders of the Purple Sage [4], which was his best-selling book.

The prize winners for Round 86 of our bi-monthly writing contest will be announced on Monday, February 3rd, 2020. Thanks for your patience.

BREXIT: Very happy for the land of my father’s ancestors. Guns back? Not a real chance, but, who knows?

Zane Grey: I enjoy his books for relaxing after a mind numbing day. I also have a nice collection of Louis L’Amour, including one autographed book.

Brexit will either be the best thing to ever happen to the EU, or the worst. We’ll know in five years. As for Britain, she ceased to be a world power with the invention of the airplane.

She ceased to be a world power when welfare/healthcare caused such a high tax rate that the rich and intelligent left. This was aggravated by uncontrolled immigration from s***hole countries.

RE: Brexit and Zane Grey. I’ll hoist a couple glasses of red wine tonight at 11 London time.

I used to pass the signs for Zane Grey’s cabin on the way up the Mogollon Rim to hunt deer and elk in the 80s. Every time I passed the signs, I thought “I should check that place out”. Unfortunately for me, the cabin burned down in a wildfire in 1990. There is a replica now, but not the original.

“Nigel Farage’s final speech at the EU ended very dramatically when he was cut off for ‘disobeying the rules’ ahead of the Brexit withdrawal agreement vote.”

Great Speech… The woman leading the assembly was awful…
