Each year, I only post one reminder, encouraging voluntary Ten Cent Challenge subscriptions [1], and this is it.
Hopefully, some readers appreciate the fact that SurvivalBlog is one of the last of the daily “Old School” blogs without any of these annoyances and intrusions:
- Annoying pop-up ads
- Opt-in pop-ups to generate e-mail lists
- E-mail list spamming
- Auto-playing media
- Paid placement pseudo-articles
- Instant surveys
- “Are you sure you want to leave?” messages
- Animated graphics or animated/blinking ads
- “Top 10” slideshows
- Cheesy stock photography
- “Members-only” exclusives
- Keyword stuffing
- Sporadic posting
SurvivalBlog is not sporadic. I’ve only missed two days of posting in nearly 15 years, and those were just after my first wife passed away. And I have never stooped to the assorted marketing and data-mining trickery that has become so commonplace on the web. No, we are still truly Old School. And we will never sell your e-mail address. We don’t even maintain any e-mail lists for our own use.
Everything at SurvivalBlog–including the full archives–is available free of charge. And we certainly do not harass you with droning week-long PBS-style pledge drives [2].
Please keep in mind that to operate SurvivalBlog we have considerable expenses for bandwidth, web hosting, maintaining our backup server, software, and legal fees.
If you find that you get more than 10 cents worth of value per day in reading SurvivalBlog, then please donate 10 cents a day ($36.50 per year) to help cover the blog’s costs. And by the way, even with inflation, that suggested donation amount hasn’t changed since the blog’s inception, back in 2005.
There are several payment options [1] including PayPal, cash, checks, booklets of “Forever” U.S. postage stamps, and even mailing us a few silver dimes or quarters. Many folks thoughtfully send some pre-1965 silver dimes or quarters taped to a piece of cardboard.
Only about 1% of readers are Ten Cent Challenge [1] subscribers. Please join in, and do your bit. Your contributions are needed and greatly appreciated.

I’m happy to have found your website just last year. I’d pretty much thrown up my hands in disgust at most of what’s on offer at other “preparedness” sites due to the constant attempts to sell stuff and generally lack of real content(often just short fluff articles posted from elsewhere). I’ve donated $$ but will switch to the yearly donation method. I appreciate what you do and what many of your readers contribute to this site and I tell others about it now that I’ve found it.

Off to the range to prove out a feed ramp reshaping fix, and a custom firing pin on this problem child rifle. When buying a personal defense weapon, get the most reliable that you can afford. In a semi auto rifle pay the extra, and get the best you can afford. I see that shoddy slap- it -together craftsman ship assembling otherwise good quality parts, makes for a rifle that could get you killed. Test all rifles thoroughly. I will expend hundreds of rounds on during this initial test using all ammunition types, and all the magazine that could be use on this rifle. I’ve recently had to fix two brand new rifles, one a well known and respected brand AK-47, and the other a popular low end mil-spec AR. I am fortunate that I can do this work myself and others. If you do not have a gunsmith at your disposal, have at least 2, if not 3 rifles per person, and spare parts. I would rather have one high quality weapon than 3 cheap rifles. The high quality rifle is less likely to fail in the middle a fight. If using a low grade rifle, and a second rifle close at hand.
This low tech site coupled with old fashioned integrity is worthy of preservation as censorship pressures over time will eliminate less substantial sites. SurvivalBlog provides, in additional to daily news and useful information on all related topics, including authoritative and comprehensive views on the financial system, it also provide a huge archive of practical advice and detail instructions, that no other website come close to matching. In a future where this information will be come increasingly difficult to find on the internet in general, this website will become more valuable for all. I believe the determination, experience, and vision of the owner, and his technical expertise, can keep this going in the future in a hostile environment that will persecute this demographic with a vengeance.
I’m short on money, but have some time, so I contribute for time to time with a bit of content.

Mr. Rawles, I have not been tuning in lately as the chores seem to be piling up. Had a few minutes so I headed to Survivalblog and as I did I thought I was due for the ten cent challenge.
