Preparedness Notes for Monday — September 2, 2019

September 2, 1969 is the day that the first automatic teller machine (ATM) made its first public debut, dispensing cash to customers at Chemical Bank in Rockville Center, New York. While being as indispensable to most people as cell phones and e-mail, they have introduced a whole new set of issues. Consumers are faced with scams, skimmers, and robbers, and even fake ATMs have been discovered.

This is the last day of Good2goco.com [1]‘s grand opening sale. They have some of the most competitive prices available on Augason, Wise Foods, and Legacy Foods long term storage food, primarily in rectangular buckets. They also carry the full line of Harvest Right DIY home freeze dryers, oxygen absorbing packets, mylar bucket liners, Seychelle and WaterPure water filters, water storage containers, and much more. Be sure to check it out their sale prices!

Today we are posting another product review by our staff Field Gear Editor, Pat Cascio.

In regards to gold watches, the watch cases are almost always gold or silver plated brass. A condition described as “brassing” is when the gold or nickel silver has been polished off the case so much that the “brass” is exposed. There are very few watches that have gold parts in them. The big boys like to play with the value of these watches as demand and prices swing wildly ( Due to their intrinsic value, investment grade watches are priced out of the market. ). A decent mechanical watch serves a good purpose, those after the 40’s usually have a non-magnetic balance spring.
