JWR’s Recommendations of the Week

Here are JWR’s Recommendations of the Week for various media and tools of interest to SurvivalBlog readers. This week the focus is on a gun vault that can be disassembled, when you move. (See the Gear section.)

Books:

Fight: Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Ass-Kicking but Were Afraid You’d Get Your Ass Kicked for Asking [1]

o  o  o

How to Win Friends & Influence People [2]. This perennial bestseller written by Dale Carnegie still resonates in truth after nine decades. (It was first published in 1936.) Anyone who works in sales or marketing should definitely read this book.

o  o  o

This is a key reference for both barter-oriented preppers and for tangibles investors: 2019 Official Red Book of United States Coins [3]. It is updated annually. If your copy is more than three years out of date, then you are behind the power curve.

Movies & Television:

To Hell and Back [4]. This is Audie Murphy’s autobiographical film about his experiences in World War II.

o  o  o

The Prisoner [5]. This British television show, was released in 1968 and starred Patrick McGoohan. It was the first television show intended to be a miniseries. (Although it was later expanded to include a few filler episodes, at the insistence of the production company.) This imaginative show with a libertarian bent was way ahead of its time!  It is now available on DVD, or for free streaming on Amazon Prime.

Vlogs and Instructional Videos:

3D-Printed Guns and The First Amendment – The Legal Brief [6]

o  o  o

3D-printed gun blueprint maker Cody Wilson: “I want people to know we’re friends of freedom” [7]

o  o  o

IV8888:  Gun Gripes #164: “AR Uppers to be Considered Firearms?” [8]

Gear (Gun Vault):

I’ve often had consulting clients ask me for my recommendations on gun vaults.  The one that I now recommend the most often is the Super Titan XXL Double Door [9]manufactured by SnapSafe, of Grand Island, Nebraska. This clever design can be disassembled from the inside, which allows you to move it in pieces, whenever you move to a new home. This is a large vault that can hold all of your guns, optics, precious metals, and other valuables. Best of all, shipping is free, if you have Amazon Prime!

o  o  o

Suarez TAC-14 Folding Arm Brace System [10]. According to one well-respected vlogger, these can be practical! [11]

o  o  o

Best Choice Products Rectangular Lift Top Coffee Table w/Hidden Compartment And Lift Tabletop [12]

About reading “How to win friends and influence people” being reading material if you are in sales, remember Zig Zigler says “Everyone is in sales”

+1 for the Snap Safe Super Titan XXL. It’s a two man job to tote the components around and also to assemble but it’s easily done by two. Beware the optional inside storage rack that hangs on the door, however. The trays don’t attach to the rack very securely. Also, if installed as the factory intended, the screws will prevent the locking mechanism from working. But it’s a simple matter to drill different holes in the hanger to locate the screws away from the locking mechanism.

“Fight”

That’s a great book title. Made me laugh. I want to read it on this basis alone.

“IV8888: Gun Gripes #164: “AR Uppers to be Considered Firearms?”

Where is our ‘staunch gun rights supporters and champions of freedom and liberty’ the NRA?…Crickets. And why isn’t it blasted across every web page and gun cite that Trump is banning AR uppers? That would be the headlines and non-stop push-back and anger if it were Obama or any other Democrat, Right?…Right? The reclassifying of firearms parts and accessories by Trump is doing more damage to America’s gun rights than Obama ever did and nobody seems to care all that much. Trump is a Gun Controller. Period.

The safe looks nice, but does it have a regular combination lock or is it an electronic combo? I can never get a straight answer from manufacturers whether the electronic would still work after an EMP….so I got the old fashioned combo.

If you click on the link that safe has a digital combo. I was not impressed with the 9gauge wall material. 9guage=.14″ easily cut with an appropriate saw or torch. High end safes use dual walls of dissimilar metals. Due to the different melting temps and metal expansion it makes them very difficult to cut or torch. Also internal hinges with locking lugs on all 4 sides is a plus. All safes can be penetrated with the right tools and time. Time being the main deterrent.

Electronic locks are also hackable. I would never buy one.
Stick with an S&G combo lock.

Respectfully, I decline any of those safes with the cheap plastic touchtop electric lock. Ever since I saw in the store that simple upward pressure pops the lightweight assembly off the front of the safe, exposing the two slender wires you count on to unlock your treasure. High heat or vandals lock you out. Funny….I was just in Grand Island last week.

If you are looking for a high quality modular safe that breaks down easily I highly recommend Zanotti out of Waterloo, IA. I own the Z3 5ft version. The customer service was outstanding and when I picked it up they gave me a tour of the place which was cool. I’ll be buying another Z3 soon. Their site said the current lead time on a new safe is 12 weeks but they are handcrafted.

Suarez is a joke who will promote and sell anything that makes him $, and iraqveteran8888 also sells his reviews for thousands of dollars.

IV8888 also came down on the wrong side of the slidefire ban and defended the benedict arnold NRA.

This is a request for a review rather than a recommendation. I read about the new exhibit at the Smithsonian Museum relating to the War for Independence.

Have you seen it? What’s your opinion?

I remember that The Prisoner tv show back in the day, my Uncle used to watch them regularly.
