The Survivalist’s Odds ‘n Sods:

SurvivalBlog presents another edition of The Survivalist’s Odds ‘n Sods— a collection of news bits and pieces that are relevant to the modern survivalist and prepper from “HJL [1]”.

Ghost Gunner

Defense Distributed won a settlement from the US Department of State to publish their gun blueprints online in July. This was a landmark victory for both the First and the Second Amendments. Now 21 states have file suit against them through four venues. After fighting the State Department for five years, their legal funds need help. Cody Wilson is asking for support [2] to help manage all of these new lawsuits attacking your right to know. If you can, please donate to help [3] (Note: They also take Bitcoin).

Who Needs Democracy

Who needs Democracy when you have data [4]? China is one of the world leaders in collecting data on their own citizens. With this data in-hand, Xi’s regime manages to stop most dissidents from reaching government centers by blocking them from purchasing tickets on public transportation. Bloggers, activists and lawyers are routinely targeted by police and silenced or imprisoned. If you think America is living in Orwell’s 1984 [5], wait till you read this article.

Back to Basics

There is an interesting article on SWAT magazine about a nationally recognized firearms instructor spending a week taking a basic defensive pistol course [6]. If you have had training and/or are an expert in handling firearms, you really should read this article.

As expected, the TSA is expanding their invasive drama show [7] beyond just the airports now. Just shortly after The Boston Globe exposed the TSA’s “Quiet Skies” program where air marshals shadow travelers who do not pose a threat and have not been accused of any specific crime, they are expanding into the Subway. Los Angeles Subway has become the first US city to have TSA body scanners installed.

South Africa Begins

Reader H.L. sent in this article on South Africa [8]. The South African government wanted two farms to sell to them. The farmers agreed and wanted $18.7 million for the farms. The government responded that they will only pay $1.87 million. The government has issued a notice to the farmers:

“Notice is hereby given that a terrain inspection will be held on the farms on April 5, 2018 at 10am in order to conduct an audit of the assets and a handover of the farm’s keys to the state,”

It should also be noted that the farmers were not given the ability to dispute the governments eviction claim in court as the law requires. If this seizure moves forward, it will mark the first time that the government has refused to pay market value for land that it intends to redistribute.

JWR’s Comment: Please pray for the people of South Africa. The threatened farm seizures now appear to be in progress. We need to find room in our hearts to take in refugees from South Africa. Mark my words: As South Africa descends into chaos and goes Full Mugabe, there will be both white and black refugees. We need to open our up immigration to anti-communist black South Africans, who will also be fleeing.

James Rawles XL Voyager

Reader T.Z. found this James Rawles XL Voyager [9] on Amazon for only $90. This appears to be the real deal and is an excellent price for the limited edition of the collector’s knife. Note that any you find in the $30 range are most likely Chinese knockoffs.

Free Tuition

Pat Cascio sent in this article on obtaining free tuition for medical students [10]. It is not uncommon for grants to be given to encourage students to go into a particular field. In fact, that’s how I ended up as a High School teacher. The state was offering to pick up all tuition costs for teaching students in certain areas if you committed to a minimum time of service in a qualifying underprivileged school. Of course, you need to ask yourself (and others) why there is such a need for those grants. Why is there a shortage of personnel because that is also the reason I quit being a teacher. It’s a two edged sword. But, if your looking for a career change or just wanted into the medical field, but couldn’t afford the tuition and didn’t want to pick up the massive student debt…

Sent in this article on twitter endorsing Sara Jeong’s [11] “Being Cruel to Old White Men”. This libtard is just one more example of why what used to be the greatest newspaper in the world is circling the drain. Remember, it’s only racist if the comment is targeted at a minority. The white middle-class is fair game according to them.

Please send your news tips to HJL. (Either via e-mail of via our Contact [12] form.) These are often especially relevant, because they come from folks who watch news that is important to them. Due to their diligence and focus, we benefit from fresh “on target” news. We often “get the scoop” on news that is most likely ignored (or reported late) by mainstream American news outlets. Thanks!

It is a major PIA for South Africans to immigrate to the U.S. Our sick and demented government makes moving here extremely difficult and expensive for them.

It would be better for them to become Mexicans or Syrians and then to come here at U.S. taxpayers expense.

I would be willing to explore taking in a SA of any color if the creed were right. Any one out there know how to get on a list? Does a list exist?

re; Who Needs Democracy

We are gradually moving in that direction already. This article at conservativereview.com asks the question, do elections really matter any more?

“Obama’s third term: 13 times courts said Trump must continue Obama’s lawless policies”
(Daniel Horowitz · August 20, 2018)

He cites 13 examples where judges have ruled that Obama executive orders must stand… Trump has no power to reverse them.

My 2 cents:
Essentially judges and lawyers are running the country, and congress likes it that way since it takes the burden of controversial issues off their backs… its far easier to spend your time glad handing and voting on whether to create National Poodle Day. Let judges and unelected bureaucrats in thousands of government agencies make the laws.

Combine that with the power and control of the Deep State, the data collection and monitoring capabilities of the Big Internet companies, the propaganda mills that Big Media have become, and the school system cranking out little socialists, and we have a real Orwellian mess on our hands.

My biggest fear has been the growing realization that preparing for something like an economic collapse or other disaster would be child’s play compared to what’s actually coming.

Of course the congress critters let judges and lawyers run the country! Most congress critters ARE lawyers!

The destructive judges, lawmakers, and lawyers will reap what they have sown one day. Count on it.

As to your suggestion on giving displaced South African’s sanctuary I see no problem, easy peasy all they have to do is changer their names to Lopez, Gonzolas, Hernandez, Cruz etc and there should be no problem

#8 Comment By LSM On August 22, 2018 @ 11:37 am

I understand what you intending to say but a word of caution; All of those names can be American as well. Some of you may want to rethink what Americans look like. Just because someone has a Latino last name doesn’t automatically mean they are not American.

Signed as a spouse of a 4th generation American with Mexican heritage, the last 3 generations who served in the military, some for over 2 decades.

Re free tuition: used to be on the medical supply field, there were many LBD’s whom would take advantage of the Governments offer to work for a specified period, in a rural area, in lieu of payment for their training, A common practice was to set up a clinic for 3 months, then disappear, leaving behind bare floors, and unpaid employees!
