Region-Wide

A reader wrote to mention a fascinating interview, published back in February: The New West: Assessing the political map in Wyoming, Montana and Idaho [2].

A raft of new businesses have announced openings in the inland northwest [3].

 

Idaho

I recently heard about Elijah Williams of Fire Creek Forge, in Troy, Idaho [4]. He makes some great custom fixed-blade knives, at quite reasonable prices.

C. Thomas Knives [5], of Hayden, Idaho is famous for blades that are re-forged primarily from large circular commercial woodsaw blades. His etched and Damascus blades are gorgeous.

The third annual Inland Northwest Preparedness Expo [8] will be held September 22nd and 23rd at the Bonner County Fairgrounds in Sandpoint, Idaho.

Montana

No tally of custom knifemakers would be complete without a mention of Ruana Knives [9] of Bonner, Montana.

Ed Caffrey [10] is an ABS Mastersmith who makes amazing knives. He also make some beautiful iron roses.

Another ABS Mastersmith is Josh Smith of Frenchtown, Montana [11].

 

Eastern Oregon

If you ever pass though Bend, Oregon, check out Griffin Made Knives [12].

Prairie City obsidian knife maker cuts through competitio [13]n

Well, not quite eastern Oregon, but Cy Swan or Roseburg, Oregon [14] deserves a mention.

 

Eastern Washington

D. Adams [15] of Spokane Valley, Washington makes great knives that are fairly inexpensive.

Bruce Bump [16] of Walla Walla makes truly artisan quality knives.

Steve Torok of Laramie Knifeworks [19] makes some amazing custom knives.

“The New West” Interesting article. West of the Divide, the state has gone down the rat hole of liberalism. Talk to any realtor who is honest and you will find out what persuasion people are who are moving there. Imo, the only thing that will change that trend is the coming brutal winters.
