The Survivalist’s Odds ‘n Sods:

SurvivalBlog presents another edition of The Survivalist’s Odds ‘n Sods— a collection of news bits and pieces that are relevant to the modern survivalist and prepper. Today we focus on the cowards of Broward County.  But first, this troubling news:

ATF Insider Reveals Draft Wording of Planned Rule on “Rate Enhancing” Parts for Semi-Autos

A “must see” video from the Military Arms Channel [1] was released on Wednesday February 28th, 2018. It is an excerpt of a longer interview with Rick Vasquez. He is a USMC veteran and former Interim Branch Chief of the BATFE’s Firearms Technology Branch. In this video, Vasquez reveals that he has received insider information from ATF consultants on the draft wording of the planned rule banning rate enhancing parts for semi-auto firearms.

According to Vasquez, this ruling will have the force of law, without an act of Congress. Because of what he called “extremely broad” wording, this ruling would ban any part that would cause a faster than normal trigger reset or faster cadence of fire of any semi-auto, and presumably re-classify those parts as contraband machinegun conversion parts. In this interview Vasquez pointedly asks: “Now who is going to decide what the [normal] rate of fire is? Because if I build a device that makes my firearm reset and shoot faster, what is going to become the ‘standard’?”  This in turn begs the question: Would magazines over a certain capacity be construed as “rate enhancing”?

Ominously, Vasquez also mentioned that he was told that as currently drafted, the new rule would have no Grandfather Clause to allow these parts to be registered as post-May 1986 machineguns. This of course would fly in the face of a huge number of precedents and case law, under Federal jurisprudence. (The norm, dating back many decades, is that Federal bans must have a Grandfather Clause, lest any new regulation constitute a “taking” without compensation [2].)

Please contact the White House, your senators, and your congressman and raise a ruckus about this!

The Cowards of Broward County

The recent events in Florida lead me to ask:  When did the courage of the Men Of Old slip away from our modern policemen?

This piece by Mark Steyn is worth reading: A Total Failure of the State [3]. His essay Includes these details:

“I was on air with Tucker Carlson when I heard that Stoneman Douglas High’s on-site ‘school resource officer’ – [Broward County] Sheriff’s Deputy Scot Peterson, uniformed, trained and armed – had declined to enter the building and had stayed safely outside until Nikolas Cruz had finished killing everybody.

After a day on suspension without pay, Deputy Peterson has now ‘retired’, which assuredly comes with pay.

But, as I said, it gets worse. Three of his fellow deputies, from Sheriff Israel’s department, then showed up at the school and also decided not to enter the building but to remain crouched behind their vehicles until the shooting had stopped.” [4]

Perhaps I’m just a dinosaur, but I seem to recall to the phrase: “Run to the sound of guns.” Obviously, American public school students can no longer depend on our police to come to their aid when besieged by lunatics.  So, it is high time to arm our schoolteachers!

Constitution Doesn’t Matter To Federal Judges

Reader DSV sent us this: Federal Court Quietly Rules “Assault Rifles” Not Protected by 2nd Amendment [5].   Here are a couple of quotes:

“In a 10-4 ruling, the federal court ruled that the state of Maryland’s ban on 45 different “assault” weapons and its 10-round limit for magazines was not a violation of the citizens’ constitutional rights. The ruling was not without harsh dissent, however.”   …  … Judge William Traxler issued a dissent. By concluding the Second Amendment doesn’t even apply, Traxler wrote, the majority “has gone to greater lengths than any other court to eviscerate the constitutionally guaranteed right to keep and bear arms.” He also wrote that the court did not apply a strict enough review on the constitutionality of the law.

“For a law-abiding citizen who, for whatever reason, chooses to protect his home with a semi-automatic rifle instead of a semi-automatic handgun, Maryland’s law clearly imposes a significant burden on the exercise of the right to arm oneself at home, and it should at least be subject to strict scrutiny review before it is allowed to stand,” Traxler wrote.”

The Big Freeze

Delingpole: NOAA Caught Adjusting Big Freeze out of Existence [6].

The article begins:  “The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has yet again [7]been caught exaggerating  ‘global warming’ by fiddling with the raw temperature data.

This time, that data concerns the recent record-breaking cold across the northeastern U.S. which NOAA is trying to erase from history.

If you believe NOAA’s charts, there was nothing particularly unusual about this winter’s cold weather which caused sharks to freeze in the ocean and iguanas to drop out of trees. [8]

Silencing Dissent

Congress is trying to pass Bill H.R.1856 that removes protections of site owners for what their users pos [9]t.  This is one more piece of legislation to voice your opposition about, when you call your congressman about the pending civilian disarmament (“gun control” ) bills.

Please send your news tips to HJL. (Either via e-mail of via our Contact [10] form.) These are often especially relevant, because they come from folks who watch news that is important to them. Due to their diligence and focus, we benefit from fresh “on target” news. We often “get the scoop” on news that is most likely ignored (or reported late) by mainstream American news outlets. Thanks!

1) While I think cops should rush to protect schoolchildren, I would note that the news media has heavy responsibility for the Broward County massacre. But while the news media criticizes everyone –often unfairly — no one criticizes the news media. Or at least, any criticisms never get aired.

2) For the past 18 months under the Black Lives Matter jihad, the news media , ACLU and Democrat lawyers have savagely attacked police officers when the cops have tried to do their jobs.

In my opinion, this was a cynical exercise — a search for scapegoats — to divert black voters attention away from how Obama’s Big Bailout for his Rich campaign donors savagely screwed the black community: 15% unemployment for 8 years and a 50% drop in the median life savings of blacks.

Did you ever see the liberal news media ask Obama how he could spend $1 Trillion a year on “defense” and “homeland security” while doing nothing to protect American communities suffering some of the highest homicide rates on the planet?

3) After the news media’s barrage of dishonest propaganda, is it any wonder that cops are reluctant to risk criminal prosecution and civil lawsuits if they draw their guns?

4) And why do scumbags feel they can get away with massacres? Because they CAN. The news media and ACLU’s campaign against the death penalty has ensured that the worst murderers face is a lifetime warm jail cell, 3 meals a day and no need to find a job.

Just a few months ago, UNELECTED judges in Florida scrapped the law passed by the elected legislators of Florida and ruled that the death penalty can be imposed only with UNANIMOUS vote of the jury to convict and another unanimous vote to impose the death penalty.

[11]

And , of course, the Democrat Supreme Court of 1972 struck down the death penalty laws of 37 state legislatures in Furman vs Georgia — it took years to even partially undo the damage from that attack:

[12]

5) In the massive blizzard of discourse over the Broward County shooting , has Anyone seen any criticism of the news media and liberal judges for sabotaging the law that deters murders?

6) Any criticism of the Democratic Party for encouraging the shooter’s biological mother to have Nikolas Cruz even though she could not care for him? And then giving birth to Nikolas’ brother a year later — with the father again unknown. Any discussion of how single moms can’t control and discipline young males when they become teenagers?
That kids deserve both a mother and a father.

What would make anyone think training and arming teachers would protect out children? Training and arming policemen in this case was useless. I am not against arming our teachers, but it should not be up to our teachers to also provide protective services to our children. If they want to arm themselves and get some training that is a good thing. But law enforcement is now training to enter the building and shoot anyone with a gun. This may put a teacher in harms way–training by US Law Shield is that if you are in an active shooter situation dump your weapon before LEO arrives or you may get shot.

#3 Comment By Damian McCue On March 1, 2018 @ 9:50 pm

Nobody is advocating that all teachers be forced to carry guns. That is a twisting of reality by the media. The idea being floated is simply allowing highly trained teachers to carry and giving them a bonus in pay. They could take part in the active shooter training with the local PD to help prevent the scenario you describe. Also, a teacher inside the school, and in harms way, is much more likely to engage the shooter than someone outside who doesn’t give a damn about the students.

Wander the web and you’ll see that while firearm costs (specifically for AR-15, AR-10, and AK-47 platforms) have not significantly bounced as a result of Parkland (yet, they will), full capacity magazines (specifically PMags, Magpul, Glock, Springfield XD, etc) have already begun creeping up 10-15%. To me, this indicates that the “soft run” on these items have already begun. I do not believe the climate is conducive for the Left to pull off a gun ban YET, I can absolutely see a “ compromise” from the right (remember, the Lefts idea of a compromise is “You give us something that we want, and we give you nothing”) that bans standard capacity magazines. If you do not have your lifetime supply, your children’s lifetime supply, and a fair stock of extras for exchange, I would purchase them now. Personally, I keep AT MINIMUM 10 factory or magpul magazines for each individual firearm I own. So, If I owned 3 AR-15’s, I have at least 30 PMags. Years ago, JWR wrote his guidance on this, and I reference this article consistently still. [13]

About the Broward county police response;
Unfortunately, this type of response is all too common.
During the Cheshire CT home invasion, the police arrived and set up for ‘hostage negotiations’ while the perps strangled the mother, tied the girls to their beds, then set them on fire.
No police were hurt though.
We must be responsible for our own safety because when seconds count, the police are only minutes away, or longer if they opt to wait outside.

So when I stick my thumb through the trigger guard of my AR and into the front right belt loop of my pants, then slowly pull the rifle forward, I can significantly increase the rate of fire of my gun. Does that mean my thumb and my belt loop are now banned?

Also, the constitution does not grant us the right to keep and bear arms. That is a God given right recognized as a self-evident truth as a result of being alive in another founding document. The constitution limits the power of the state to infringe on that right.

Time to start sending some white feathers to the sheriff’s dept., and some rotten fish to the FBI.

As for the judges, it bears remembering that no member of our government is meant to protect our rights as citizens. Our rights are protected by the will of the people, IOW, ourselves. If tyrants and thugs seek to infringe on our rights, it is our duty to correct them, by whatever means become necessary. That is part of what it means to be free. Those who would sacrifice their freedom for a little security deserve neither.

They try to pick us off, one by one, to maintain their ever increasing controls on us. But they do not understand that for every one they try to silence or vanquish, 10 others take his place. In this way, when one of us suffers, we all suffer, and that becomes an intolerable condition in a free society.

#9 Comment By Tom Lowe On March 1, 2018 @ 9:49 pm

I wish more people understood where their rights come from. You stated correctly that the Constitution doesn’t grant we the people rights, it established a form of government, listed what it can do (article 1, Section 8) and then listed some other things that it has not one darn thing to say about. We have allowed the government to overstep it’s bounds. We need to put it back in check.

Martin Armstrong has been putting out some good info trending the cycle of temperature on the planet since antiquity (we are currently in a cooling trend towards solar minimum). War, famine, and disease historically get worse with down-trend temps. His analysis program takes all world events into account, amazing once you grasp that everything moves in cycles. His site is Armstrongeconomics.com, and has been featured on SB before…highly reccommend you read all his work/blog.

Here in SW Idaho, our teachers have been armed for ages…..since the sheriffs are so spread out and can’t respond as fast as in cities. Also most of the citizens are armed and would gladly back up the teachers or sheriff. Isn’t “common sense” a wonderful thing!

#16 Comment By armed citizen On March 1, 2018 @ 6:27 pm

It is an individuals responsibility for their own safety and the safety of their loved ones! One MUST HAVE the means of self defense which is WHY we have a 2nd Amendment. Most teachers are Liberals and are afraid of firearms, so arming teachers will not work. “Shall not be infringed ” was written in so even the most common person would understand that no government can ever take away our birthrights given to us by our Creator! Evil will always find a tool to harm the innocent. This IS the great battle between good and evil which we are in every day until the return of Jesus, our Savior. When Jesus returns and evil departs, then and only then, will I not have a need for a firearm!!!!

“When did the courage of the Men Of Old slip away from our modern policemen?”

You know when sir. You’re a student of the Old Testament. America is an idolater that has sacrificed 60 million children to satan, the god of expediency. There is no turning back from this. Even if we repent now a price must be paid. Read the book, it’s all in there. God was removed from the public square. What does this have to do with the Florida shooting? Everything, and nothing at all. America is gone.

We have so many ex-military retired veterans, already trained and smart tactically, who now see their grand children in harms way and the failure of the police to protect them. I for one, would VOLUNTEER to help with campus security for FREE to insure my children, grand children and others will not come into harms way from lack of action on my part.

When was the last time that ANYONE considered a school a battle ground and gave options specific to each school???

#22 Comment By Charles K. On March 1, 2018 @ 11:13 pm

From what I have been reading, at LewRockwell.com, the sheriff, the school superintendent, and the entire school board and county government officials should be held both financially and criminally liable for the deaths and injuries perpetrated by Nikolas Cruz. In order to make the school system statistics look better, criminality by students were whitewashed from police records. The school system had one of the worst records in the country of student criminality. So don’t report the students, let the school system handle discipline, so no criminal activities by students would be on official police records, amazing how fast the schools statistics improved. Had records been kept, reporting been accomplished, Nikolas Cruz would never have been able to purchase any firearm.

A LAW SUIT AGAINST THE SCHOOLS AND THE COPS IS DEFINITELY IN ORDER! And while we’re at it, maybe against former president Obama as well. The school and sheriff’s actions were a result of an Obama executive order. Isn’t dictatorship a wonderful thing?

#23 Comment By Charles K. On March 1, 2018 @ 11:19 pm

The NICS system didn’t fail. The lack of reporting by government agencies of obvious criminality was the ultimate failure. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

Hmm, a quite a few yers ago in either Maryland or Conn, A person / guy enter a house and assault and raped the mother and then the daughter, after doing this a second time the mother managed to get away and into the basement and pick up a .22 caliber rifle and manged to shoot and kill the perpetrator as he followed her into the basement to attempt to rape her again. The judge in the case sentenced her to 5 to 10 in jail for 2nd degree murder, his ruling was that there was window near the ceiling that she could have gotten out of the basement. She was in jail for a period of time before her sentence was over turned and was released from jail.

The long-term solution to your child/grandchild’s safety and well-being is to GET THEM OUT(!) of public schools. Physical safety is fine, but ask yourself about the content of education in America. If you look at the history of the public school system, it was designed and promulgated by Fabian Socialists and Theosophists such as John Dewey, Margaret Sanger, Margaret Mead, H.G. Wells, G.B. Shaw and other closet Marxists and Collectivists.
The manipulation of the minds of children through environmental nonsense such as CAPTAIN PLANET(Ted Turner), “HEATHER HAS TWO MOMMIES”(the LGBT community), the CDC(how many of your parents own firearms?), UNICEF Halloween fund raisers, are milestones on the Long March to the New World Order first put forth by George Herbert Walker Bush, a Skull and Bones Illuminati traitor to our Republic.
Do what you need to do to home school your children or put them in a parochial school of some sort. If you cannot afford to do that, then monitor what they are being taught and confront your local school board about it. Time is short. The MSM, the “entertainment industry” and a lot of big foundation money is going into the brainwashing of future generations. School shooters are a disease of the skin. These acolytes of Saul Alinsky and George Soros are a disease of the heart.

A perfect time to renew membership or initially join the NRA. Send a message to the leftists in America that we will not give up our rights from the propagandizing of these shootings. I’ve yet to see a single politician mention the common denominator in most mass shootings…anti depressant use. Why is obvious, the agenda to disarm the American people comes before all else. Political correctness is a weapon used to achieve this goal. God help us…
