Today is the birthday of actor Robert Duvall (born 1931.) His roles in Open Range [1] and Apocalypse Now [2] are unforgettable.
January 5th is also the birthday of the late John Pugsley [3] (born 1934, died April 8, 2011), libertarian and economics author. Pugsley was well known in preparedness circles as the author of The Alpha Strategy [4]. (The book is out of print, but a PDF is available for free download.) It is also the birthday of General Courtney Hodges [5] (born 1887 – January 16, 1966). Kicked out of West Point for low math scores, he enlisted as a private but soon became a maverick officer and went on to a distinguished career.

Duvall is one of kind. Lonesome Dove was one of his best roles

“Lonesome Dove” is more than a movie. The subtle messages in that story are brilliant. It is holds a redemptive tone throughout and Duvall’s lines are timeless.

I second the Second Hand Lion’s role he played; what a great movie with a solid morality tale towards the end.

Robert Duvall as Gen. Robert E. Lee, talk about well done. An outstanding actor in all respects.
