Guest Article: The MVT Lite Fight Concept- Part 2, by Max Alexander

We’ve covered the first two components of the MVT Lite Fight Concept —Lite Hydration Pack (LHP) and plate carrier. However, I haven’t wrapped up my comments relating to plates. Here are my notes:

Ballistic Plates:

The Ergonomics of Gear Wear:

There is active discussion on a number of these gear and weapon matters on the MVT Forum. There is a $25 per annum joining fee. This keeps the trolls away and the discussion civilized and rational.

I enjoyed this article, but I understood very few of the abbreviations.

LBE – Load Bearing Equipment (chest rig, h-harness, vest, etc…)

CQBC – Close Quarter Battle Course

OEM – Original Equipment Manufacturer

MRO – Miniature Rifle Optic (weapon reflex sight)

OTAL – Offset Tactical Aiming Laser (usually a IR (infrared) laser for use with night vision to accurately engage targets in darkness)

…feel free to ask for any other clarification.

Great suggestion on the pinned gas block, as that is a huge point of failure for franken-guns and assorted home builds. I usually run an adjustable, adjusted for the least powerful round I might fire, and then turn it out 1 or 2 additional to account for any carbon build up between cleanings. I have found that if using set screws, to ensure you have TWO set screws that are dimpled and not simply slipping/sliding on the curvature of the barrel. I further ditch the standard issue and use a serrated screw (called a monster screw – that’s what she said) to dig into the barrel material…of course threadlock is applied. Check it often and it’s GTG. I have complete confidence in this setup across my DI weapons. Of course, with all resources at your disposal, pinning is superb as long as you’re committed to your setup. An overlooked part of readiness and good of you to point out such a fine detail.

Would it be out of place to ask for brand names in the LBB, ifak etc..? Not so I can be a Max wanna be, but so I don’t have to buy 3-4 ifaks to find one that is compatible w a LBB. All my purchases are online and the photos of products are deceiving.

Thanks. Great articles.
